The tale of two wraps and a cowl

A second Spindrift wrap is off the needles, blocked and on its way to a new home.I just used pins for this one as I didn’t have my blocking wires at the time and I was in a hurry to get this blocked.

Lacy type knitting evidently isn’t my forte but I’m going to keep trying.  A double yarn over here or a missed stitch?  I don’t know but it won’t unravel so I’m calling it good.

Besides who will notice it when worn?

I did reblock the first Spindrift that had several challenges and it looks so much better.  I used the new blocking wires for this and was really impressed with how easy it was to shape the wrap.

I picked up the dropped stitch and used a crochet hook to “knit” it down to the eyelet and tacked it down.

I probably should have just tacked the stitch where it was dropped as the result of trying to take it to the edge or in this case a change in pattern caused a line of tight stitches.

But blocking helped relax those to some extent.  My cast-on needs some practice, too.

Lesson learned.  I hope I can remember it again!

This cowl is for my grandson, brother of the twins.  I can’t send them something and ignore him!

The pattern is the Neon Jungle Cowl but I made some modifications that can be found on my Ravelry page here.  I liked the thermal-type texture of the Broken Rib Stitch and it looks good on both the right side and wrong side.

The color is a multi-hunter green but looks more bluish here.

It should keep him warm.

 

 

 

First knits

Well, these are not exactly the first knits of 2018 but close enough.

I knit a pair of mitts for a dear friend a few years ago and her children love them and sometimes wear them.

So I knit a pair of mitts for each of them.

Crossed Cables – Shirl’s Mittlets knit in Yarn Bee Snowflake wool blend

Honeycomb – adapted from Unisex Gloves knit in Araucania Natural Wool

Owl – Who’s Owl Mitts knit in Cleckheaton

Bumpy – my pattern knit in Lion Brand Wool-Ease

Ziggy -my pattern knit in Lion Brand Wool-Ease

I hope they don’t fight over them…

Six and seven

I was wrong.  I’ve knit seven pairs of Dorothy’s Slip Stitch Spiral Knit Socks.

Pair #6

Pair #6 using a solid Knit Picks Stroll fingering weight yarn in Peapod plus the Easter Egg dyed yarn and the rest of the red/white/black self-striping yarn.  

I tried to alternate the red/white/black and the peapod yarn to the tip of the toe.  You can see on one of the socks that I ran out before the end of the toe and just used the peapod to finish it.

Love these socks.

SSSK Socks #7 use a new purple self-striping yarn, the rest of the blue self patterning yarn from here and here and here along with the rest of the Easter Egg dyed yarn.  

In fact I ran out of the blue and finished the second sock with some of the Trekking XXL yarn from these socks.

It’s not crucial for the striping to match with this particular pattern but it almost happened.  Unintentionally, of course.

I love these socks, too.

Chairs

Both chairs are finished.  The colors aren’t that true and I can’t seem to get the right adjustments to make them more realistic.  The yellowish-green is more of a chartreuse green and the blues have more depth.

Rita’s chair: Done!  This is now my knitting chair as it sits in the corner.

And here it is in front of the window.  iPad Aunt’s chair resides there now.

iPad Aunt’s chair: Done but not happy with the cushion.  I didn’t wrap the new foam in Dacron before stuffing it into the cover.  It looks too boxy and I need to fix that.  Plus the seat cushion looks too big for the chair but it’s not that way in real life.

Both chairs side-by-side.  You can see that they are very similar but different.  Rita’s chair has a lower part on the bottom front, straight-arm stump, and is a smaller chair.  iPad Aunt’s chair is straight across the bottom front, has a curved arm stump, and is a wider chair.

I tried very hard to get the patterns to match up on both chairs but it was very difficult.  The pattern was 24 inch vertical repeat so I tried not to waste fabric.

I am in the process of redoing the ottoman that matches Rita’s chair but that is on hold for now.  Too many irons in the fire.
