My last FO for 2018

Yes, I realize there are still six days (including today) left of the year though I’m pretty sure I won’t finish any knitting projects between now and January 1st.  Especially since I only have one on the needles and it’s been in a timeout for a l-o-n-g time.

In fact, I’m desperately trying to find a project I can work on.

But back to the title of this post…

…ta-da!  The latest in the series of Dorothy’s SSSK socks knit in Berroco Comfort Sock yarn.  

I liked the yarn, however, the bluish-grey color was not a continuous ball.  I found four, count ’em, FOUR knots with cut ends and I didn’t even use the entire ball!  Good thing a continuous color was not integral to the pattern.

I was lucky to semi-match the brighter color ball between the pair so the two socks almost match.

Gotta get them ready to mail.

A trio revisited

I washed the three 1898 hats to try to soften the acrylic yarn and it worked.  Sort of.

They are somewhat softer and are good enough.

The green hat stitches evened out so the mess basically disappeared.

Ready to gift.

Most hotels offer hairdryers in their guest rooms.  But many times when staying with family or friends, a hairdryer might not be available when you need it.  So when Mr. Aitch and I traveled across the country this past summer, we bought a small hairdryer to take with us for those times when we didn’t stay in a hotel.

The hairdryer was attached to the wall in some hotels but some were in a cloth bag on or under the sink area.  That gave me an idea for our “travel” hairdryer.

I made a simple drawstring bag to protect it in our suitcase and make it easy to find.

Two fat-quarters and a length of cotton cord later and I called it done.

Cotton for the outside and a piece of heavy flannel for the inside.  French seams keep it neat (no exposed seams).  A piece of batting sandwiched between the outer and inner fabrics and/or quilting would offer more padding but I didn’t think of it at the time.

This will stay in our guest bathroom when we’re home but can go with us at a moments notice.

I finished the third in the series of striped 1898 hats.

This one is two shades of blue: a soft heathered medium blue (Wool-eze) and navy (Red Heart Super Saver).  Same stripe sequence as the others though I only played yarn chicken with the first hat.

I’m going to toss these in the washer and dryer to soften up the acrylic Red Heart yarn…unless you know of another way to soften them.

Oh, and I decided to follow Jude and Salpal’s advice.  Leave the green hat as is and not be concerned with the wonky stitches.  It IS for a child after all.
