Pumpkin hat part two

Another one.

Red Heart with Love (worsted weight) in Mango, unknown acrylic yarn in a bright green using Drops Extra pattern 0-966.

ph2-002

Since the with Love yarn is worsted and the pattern calls for a DK weight, I used size 5 (US) needles on this hat and made it a bit larger using the 90 stitch directions even though the first hat I made followed the 96 stitch directions.  The larger needles and fewer stitches resulted in a larger hat.

Two down, one more to go!

Cheers to you!

I renamed the Drinkers Mitts: Cheers to You! Mitts

I really enjoyed knitting these.  The only issue was finding the right (or close enough) colors in my stash.  Most of the yarn is Knit Picks Stroll fingering weight yarn.  The beer mugs at the top are knit from an acrylic yarn that just didn’t seem to get along with the wool blend after blocking the mitts and want to recede into the background.  My ribbing isn’t as nice as I wish.

My friend liked them.  A lot.  I wish I would have gotten a picture of her modeling them.  But alas I didn’t.

Apart from the background color change, the Cosmopolitan drink (?) is now a Margarita as the pink I had didn’t go with the red.  If I make these again, I would add a row or two of plain knitting between the beer mugs and the ribbing.  Maybe it was using two different yarns (acrylic and wool) that caused the less than perfect transition.

Frogged

Frogged: ripping apart a knitted or crocheted item.  Rip-it, rip-it, rip-it…ribbit, ribbit, ribbit.

I blogged about this papaya sweater way back in 2011.  Cute pattern but not for my body type.  I love the yarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Papaya Heather.

The frogged yarn might become this Shakespeare Cardigan.shakespeare_small2

The Vine-Lace vest by Cecily Glowik MacDonald just didn’t do it for me.  Knit Picks Shine.  Nice soft yarn that doesn’t pill.  No plan for the yarn yet.

Next up: the Hippy Chic Cardigan:  I loved this sweater (at the time) from Knit It! 2002 and couldn’t get gauge but I started knitting it way, way back before I started blogging. Disaster from the get-go.

Quite frankly I don’t like it now.   It does have some waist shaping so it’s not a box and I like the collar.  I think it’s the way it fits the model that I don’t like now.  Never a fan of the Hi-Low look though I’m sure it’s not that style.  It just looks that way.  Red Heart Tweed in Charcoal.

Spinners

Guess what?

OK, I’ll tell you.

I’m retiring on June 30.

Screen shot of the countdown calendar that I took this morning while eating breakfast:

Yup, only 90 more days to go.

Mr. Aitch and I have discussed this change in our lives and have come up with a very lucrative business to give us more income in our Golden Years.

We are in the process of setting up a silk spinning company.  Using spiders to spin webs that we will harvest and turn into very strong and beautiful yarn.

During my Spring cleaning, I discovered several places that are full of these beautiful silken threads.  I didn’t want to stop the silk production so I left the spiders where they were and just took the webs.

Now to clean, card, and spin my findings into beautiful yarn.  Any spinners out there who want to help?
