Redo, redone

I couldn’t gift an item that was sub par so I removed one button/snap band, lined up the ridges and snaps and sewed it back on.

I feel better even though I’m sure the Birthday Girl didn’t care.  I did.

The color is hard to capture on camera but the above picture is pretty close to the actual color. I try to include a care tag and a bit of extra yarn with all my gifted items.  It also shows how many stitches are in the item.  The gifts weren’t opened before we left so no pictures of the model and sweater.

Rookie mistake

I finished a sweater for Mr. Aitch’s grand niece’s first birthday and I’m not happy with the result.

Funny how I didn’t see the lopsidedness of the snap band and the ridges until I took the pics.

I didn’t want to pick up all those stitches for a button band and should have just done a 4-5 stitch edging on the two front edges as I was knitting.  But no.  I wanted to add a fabric button band and snaps to make it easier to fasten and unfasten.  Not matching up the horizontal ridges was a rookie mistake.  I had such a time of getting those snaps on (I broke three in the process) that I just want to be done with it.

The party is Sunday and I’m debating on whether I should just remove the sewn on button/snap band and knit it OR give it as is and be embarrassed to gift such shoddy work.  And we know that I won’t do the later…

Under the weather

I’ve been sick since Thursday evening. It all began with a sore throat and plugged up sinuses.

Then on Friday my nose decided to get into the act.  I started using cotton handkerchiefs to catch the drips.

By Saturday I was achy and miserable.  In fact I received some yummy yarn in the mail and I didn’t feel like opening the package. Have you ever felt so bad that your favorite activity doesn’t even interest you?  I haven’t picked up my knitting needles since Thursday evening.

Sunday was better in that my sinuses seem to be clear. But now I have a terrible cough that sounds as if my lungs will come right out of my mouth.

I am so hoping that my doctor can squeeze me in today for an appointment just so we can rule out pneumonia.

Mr. Aitch has been taking great care of me…cooking and washing the dishes. ❤️

Monday night and Tuesday morning we will be under a different kind of weather. A late winter snow storm!  ❄️ 🌨 Maybe I’ll feel better and knit while watching the snow pile up.

Don’t tread on me details

My Don’t Tread on Me purse/bag went from this…

..to this in a few steps.

After the first cycle through the washer.

That blob of stuff in the upper left is what I pulled out of the washer and was attached to the bag as it felted.

Second cycle…and more fuzziness.

The raised lines are felting into the bag.

I needed a third hot/cold wash cycle to get the final felting I wanted.  This is a close-up of the strap.  See all that fuzz?!?!

I started defuzzing the strap.  See the difference between the left side and the right side?

The main bag portion getting sheared.

These duckbill scissors worked great and I didn’t worry (too much) about accidentally cutting into the felted fabric.

A piece of foam cut to size serves as a stabilizer under the lining.  A flexible glue holds it in place.

Voila!
