Punctures and paint

My goal for the weekend was to paint the dining room.  Mr. Aitch helps and would have helped more if I asked him to but I did all of the painting myself.  As I was removing a vent, the screwdriver slipped and I punctured the pad on my left index finger.  To say it hurt is an understatement.  It’s a lot better now but is still tender.

Getting the room ready for paint is a chore.  Getting the room back in functioning order is something I detest.  I don’t have a china cupboard and I really want/need one.  I do have a huge buffet full of things I don’t want but they were gifts.   Expensive gifts.  Not my taste gifts.  Things I don’t use gifts.  What do I do with these?

If I had a place to display my china, I could have room to store these above mentioned gifts.  So the hunt is on for a china cupboard.  Not like I’ve been looking for one since 1999.  I just haven’t found the right one.

Saturday night I decided I better get started on a knitted sweater for my granddaughter’s first birthday.  September 10.  I started the Elizabeth Zimmerman February Sweater on Two Needles.  Is it me or are her instructions a bit hard to understand?  I’m thinking it’s me.  So far the only modifications are I’m using a worsted weight yarn (Caron Simple Soft in pistachio) and size 8 needles.  I hope this will be big enough for a size 2 toddler. 

I’m into the gull pattern and I think I made a mistake and will have to rip one or two rows.  Mr. Aitch was talking to me as I was just getting into the pattern rhythm and I think I miscounted.  Whatever.  It’s happened before.  The puncture wound does bother me when I’m knitting so I can’t knit for very long before I have to take a break.

Oh, and my swiffer covers work great!

Evidently my computer is still having issues as I cannot get any pictures off my camera.  😦

Slump Day

Yep, that kind of says it all.

Slump Day for work, knitting, sewing, cleaning, you name it.

I want to knit EZ’s February baby sweater in a 24 month size.  I’ve never knit a top-down sweater before.  Do I just start the pattern and make the body bigger?  Seems like a no-brainer.  Is it?

And I need to have this finished by September 10.

Yesterday I stopped by the Big Box store and bought six balls of cotton in assorted colors for the Swiffer covers.  Quick, easy, portable project.  Maybe these will get me out of my slump.

On the edge

I finished the knitting part of my Lace Hem Topping and the two pieces were blocked yesterday.  What’s left is the seaming (ugh) and the crochet edges.  I have several crochet hooks and can do a chain stitch.  The finishing edges on this shell involve a row of single crochet once around the armhole and neck edges followed by a row of reverse crochet.  Does crochet even have rows?  

I did a search for these two techniques and think I have it but am open to more advice.  Can you direct me to any good videos that show these two techniques so I have the confidence to put this shell on my FO list?  Or better yet, come on over and show me!  

Of course I’m itching to get started on another project while waiting for the above shell to dry before seaming and adding the crochet edge.  While in my least favorite store the other day, I came across these fabulous colors of Caron Simple Soft yarn (worsted weight or #4).

Colors from left to right: Pistachio, Blueberry, Strawberry, Persimmon (soft coral), and Sunshine.  They look a bit bright but they are very soft colors.  

I have three baby sweaters to knit for friends babies and grandchildren by September.  I need help with the color combinations.  Not sure what pattern I’m using but fell in love with this pattern.  It’s for adults but it couldn’t be that hard to take some elements and make it suitable for a  baby or child, could it?  

I think what I like is the texture of the garter stitch against the stockenette.  Do you think I could adapt my eyelet pattern for this?  Or perhaps the 5-hour baby sweater pattern, only make the garter stitch bottom edge extend more into the body by 3 inches and overlap the front edges by 3 inches?  I’m not sure how I would do the neck…and since the pattern is a neck-down pattern, I’d have to figure that out ASAP!  

Color combos?  I would use 2-3 colors for this.  Body (stockenette) in one color, bottom and front panel (garter) in color two, and an optional 2-3 rows in stockenette between the body and garter on color three.  I don’t have a scanner or I would show you my sketches.All sweaters are for girls…as if that should make a difference.  Two for size 6-months and one for 18 months.

Eyelet Sweaters June 2010

I’ve made my first sweater pattern available for the Eyelet Sweater.  Pattern is listed on the sidebar.  So far I only have size 12-24 months and will try to get other sizes. 

This sweater is designed to go to the waist and has 3/4 or elbow length sleeves. 

***I have not have any test knitters try out this pattern.  Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
