WIPs but no FOs

One of my goals for the year was to have one or two things on my needles.  I hoped to have my papaya cardi finished this weekend.  Didn’t happen that way.  I did manage to knit the collar and pin the sleeves in place but I did not seam them together yet.

My daughter sent me some yarn to knit one of the Spud and Chloe Go Team hats with an argyle pattern for one of her co-workers.  Finding an argyle that can be knit in the round was a major challenge.  This is Lion Brand Wool Ease in Violet and Avacado.  The cream is left over from my stash.

First attempt

The first attempt wasn’t to my liking so I ripped out part of it and reknit it.

Not quite this bright

I still have the i-cord ties and pom poms (or tassels) to do.  I want to get this mailed to her tomorrow.

I also started a special project that I will finish by the end of this month.  More on that later.

Crochet success

I managed to do two rows of the single crochet edge on the sleeve edge of the cardi I’m knitting and only had to rip it once.  I was picking up too many stitches.  The fronts and back are blocked and should be dry by the time I get home from work.  I still have to block the sleeves but I can do that while I finish the collar.

The final steps are to do the seaming, do the crocheted edge at the bottom and sew on the buttons, which I don’t have yet.  Maybe I will make some if I can’t find what I want.

I’m very excited about this sweater.  I just hope it fits and I like it, no, LOVE it!

I hope to have some pictures of it this weekend.

Felt ornaments

So our Christmas tree is up but not decorated.  I want to make some felt ornaments so the twins can help decorate the lower branches of the tree.   I actually ventured out to a few stores Friday afternoon for some supplies.  No Black Friday mobs in the afternoon.

Future felt ornaments

The white cutouts are some of my paper patterns that I’ll need to transfer to cardstock or thin plastic so I can reuse them.  Not shown are assorted beads and embroidery floss.
Starting new projects always gets my heart pumping and my creative juices flowing.  I have a few projects I need to finish before I dive into these…listed in no particular order:
    1. Musica mitts: one down, one to go. Deadline: December 22.  I’m using fingering weight yarn and think sport weight would have been better for a larger mitt.
    2. Three Spud & Chloe earflap hats: one finished, one waiting for strap, one waiting to get started. Deadline: December 10 for these two  and December 22 for the third one.

    Toddler size hats

    3. Buttons for the above mentioned hats.  Deadline December 9.
    4. Seamless slippers for Dr. Professor: finished except for sewing on the rest of the sole. Deadline: last week.

Teal and heather green seamless slippers

    5. Soakers: One halfway finished, one still in a ball.  Deadline: December 10.
    6. Ms Ida mittens: One thumb to go.  Deadline: December 9 (though the recipient wanted them yesterday).  This is an old progress picture.

    Ms Ida CLM right palm

I must confess that these are not for the meek.  For some reason I could not get the thumbs right so abandoned the pattern and figured out another way to decrease and keep in the pattern.  Sort of….  If I’m brave, I’ll post a picture.

Musica mitts cast on

I started the Musica mitts over the weekend when I wasn’t getting ready for our early Thanksgiving dinner…which will be tonight.  My son has to work on Thanksgiving so he and his family are coming to our house for dinner tonight.  Mr. Aitch is in charge of getting the turkey in the oven as I have to work today.

I’ve already got the pumpkin pies, candied yams, cooked/baked and the stuffing is made.  Green bean casserole and mashed potatoes will be made as soon as I get home.  I hope I can leave for home a little early today.

Anyway, back to the Musica mitts.  I am making these for Mr. Aitch for Christmas so he can smoke his cigars outside in the winter and keep his hands warm at the same time.  He is a retired band director, still directs the church choir and plays in several community bands so I thought these would be fitting with his musical life.

Musica Mitts overview

I’m using Knit Picks Stroll in fingering weight.  Knitting on size 3 (US) needles instead of the 2.5 as instructed.  I want them to be a bit larger than the pattern.  I repeated the first few rows as well to make them longer.  I also might make fingers for the ring finger and pinky.  We’ll see how it goes.

Musica Mitts closer

Sorry for the low quality pictures.  I used my phone and the lighting was poor.

It’s funny how much I contemplated over the colors: Dusk and Midnight Heather.  Mr. Aitch is partially colorblind so all he’s going to see are blue and black.  Whatever.

I hope I can work on these this weekend.  I also have to finish the soakers and Ms Ida Mittens.  The twins’ birthdays are this month and I have a few things I need to finish.

It will all come together, right?
