Interesting few days…

I was a bit MIA for a few days but I’m home now.  For the past few days I have been in Morgantown, WV; Springs, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; and the hospital.

Mr. Aitch wanted to go out to dinner last Friday.  Outback Steakhouse.  The closest one is in Morgantown, WV.  Only 68 miles away.  We took the Harley and it was a nice ride and dinner.  Not crowded at all when we got there but there were people waiting to get in when we left.  Good timing!

Broken Stork Scissors

Saturday morning I went to Springs on my Suzuki to see the Scissors Guy about fixing my stork scissors.  The original pivot had been riveted and screwed and he said he couldn’t repair them.  I appreciated his honesty.

Saturday afternoon I seamed one shoulder on the Lace Hem Topping.  I don’t like how it’s turning out.  lengthening the body by an inch and shortening the armhole by an inch helped with the fit.  I really want to get this finished.  For some reason this isn’t going as smoothly as I anticipated.  I am short row seaming challenged.

The stitches are twisted so I took a break and made these

Knit Picks Ms Ida Chain Link Mittens

Sunday we made a quick trip to Pittsburgh.    I took some yarn and a new mitten pattern to work on while Mr. Aitch drove.  (I even bought the recommended colors.)  In my haste to pack something  small to knit, I forgot one set of needles and didn’t get the project started.  As soon as we got home, I found the size needles I needed and put them in my knitting bag.

Monday became the most interesting day and I’ll explain in a later post.

Knitting bling

I made these the other night.  There are a ton of stitch markers for sale on etsy.  Mine will fit up to size US 10.5 and I can make some a little smaller that fit up to US size 6 needles for sock and lace knitters.  Do I add mine or just see if my LYS would sell them for me?

One step forward, two steps back

I was knitting along the front of the Lace Hem Topping (are you as tired of hearing about this as I am writing about it???) and discovered about 20 rows ago that I had a weird stitch.  Right along the front  k2tog edge on the v-neck.  There was nothing I could do to camouflage it so I had to frog it.  Yes, dear friends, the dreaded four-letter word that starts with an “f”.

As of now, both the front and back are finished to the shoulder shaping.  I didn’t want to do the stair-step bind off as called for in the pattern but couldn’t figure out how to do short row shaping and the 3-needle bind off.  Just too tired last night.

Or should I forgo the shoulder shaping and just do a 3-needle bind off on a straight seam?

And last, but not least, the local weather report has us only getting to around 90 degrees today.  A far cry from the near-100 degrees and 105 degree heat index we had over the weekend but a bit warmer than the mid-80’s we had on Monday and Tuesday.

Goodwill, scissors, craziness, and knitting

Yes, I did it.  I took the bags of clothes to Goodwill.  All 14 bags.

The next questions is: Do I want to have a yard sale or just take the stuff to Goodwill?  Most of the stuff I have is not worth much but I don’t want to throw it away.  It’s still good/usable, just not for our lives/house anymore.

Maybe the “good” stuff will make it to Craigslist.

Mr. Aitch and I did not go the farmer’s market on Saturday to seek out the scissors repair man.  It was just too darn hot.  I did go into town (18 miles round trip) to my LYS for some knitting needles and the market for few things we needed for dinner.  Mr. Aitch said I was crazy for taking the motorcycle.  A good part of the ride is fairly shaded.  I did have to wait for a train to pass and it seemed like it took FOREVER.  I managed to get in the shade of the telephone pole (yeah, I was that desperate) so I didn’t totally melt into the pavement.

Mr. Aitch was right.  I was crazy.  99 degrees with a heat index of 103, a mesh jacket, helmet and black leather pants don’t play well together.  I was glad to get home and into air-conditioned bliss.

I’m into the neck shaping on the Lace Hem Topping shell.  I’m not as into it as I should be.  I guess the fitting disaster has toned down my enthusiasm for finishing it.  But I will persevere.
