Living and crafting between the hot flashes

Souvenir yarn

We visited Colorful Yarns in Centennial, Colorado when we visited our daughter last month and I bought some souvenir yarn all in fingering weight.

Two hand-dyed in the Denver area and one from Texas.

Knerd String is located in Castle Rock, Colorado.  I loved the greens and purples in the Mr. Greensleeves colorway.  As this is 100% wool, it will become a shawl of some sort.

Andromeda‘s Grumpy Gus is a special colorway created just for the Colorful Yarns shop.  This hank of blues and greens will become socks or a shawl in a yet-to-be-determined pattern.

I had to have the grey and touch of purple Chasing Rabbits Fern yarn in Tarnish hand-dyed in Amarillo, Texas.

I’m a sucker for greys and other neutral colors though I also like color…it just depends on my mood and the project on which I’m working.

Do you buy souvenir yarn, fabric or other things on your travels?

Balls and balls

My SIL asked me to knit a cardigan/poncho/ruana for her. We decided on a wool/acrylic blend.

This pattern as a very loose starting off point. She wants a solid neutral grey. I know the yarn weights are very different but I’m going to wing it.

Let the fun begin!

Annual pedis

We back last week from visiting our daughter and family in Colorado so I’ll be telling you a bit about our trip over the next few days.

Last year I took my daughter the girls (they are 10 years old) out for pedicures when we visited them so we decided to do that again this year.

My one granddaughter got a skeleton on her big toe and I got a pumpkin.

My daughter picked a beautiful autumn color and no nail art but the other grand got a ghost one her big toe.

I want to make this an annual event when we visit.

Cornish Cream Tea

The fourth pair of socks in The Handmade Sock Society II, Cornish Cream Tea, are finished and ready to be gifted.  These were done before our vacation but I didn’t have time to post about them.

I’ve enjoyed all of the socks in this series so far and the fifth pattern was released about two weeks ago.

The yarn is Knit Picks Stroll in a tonal color called Thunderhead.  I love all the subtle shades of greys.

For some reason, the number of rows knitted between the end of the gusset and beginning of the toe decreases just wasn’t long enough to fit my foot as with the other three pairs of socks.  Same needle size, same brand and weight of yarn.  Perhaps the pattern down the front of the leg and foot doesn’t stretch as much as the previous ones.

But my SIL will love them!
