My Friday

Some bloggers have a theme for each day of the week.  Not me.  I blog/post whenever I can or feel like it.  Right now, I’ve had two glasses of wine and the foresight to photograph two things that have significance to my life/day.

This is what I encountered this morning.  This photo was snapped with my phone about 100 feet from my house.  I think they were nibbling on the corn stalks wrapped around the street sign.

deer-out-of-car

You can only see three deer but there were more.  By the time I stopped the car and got my phone out, the deer got spooked and started to move away from my car.

If you want to know what those lighted numbers mean on my dashboard: It’s 62 degrees Fahrenheit. I have 400 miles-till-empty in my gas tank.  (Just got it filled up yesterday.)  It’s 7:37 am.  The airbag is disengaged in the passenger seat as no one is sitting there.

This second photo is taken at the dinner table after my second glass of wine.

wine-and-chocolate

Don’t judge.

Yes, that’s my empty wine glass and twelve, count ’em, TWELVE wrappers from Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Almonds and Toffee Nuggets.  In the background is the Mark Levin book, The Liberty Amendments.

I ate them all.

Mr. Aitch had none.

I just hope they don’t rebel.

Wine tasting

Mr. Aitch and I enjoy wine frequently.  We prefer reds though occasionally we’ll have white.Hullabaloo-wine-label

Last night’s dinner consisted of cheese and crackers, apple slices and cheesecake.  And a bottle of Hullabaloo Zinfandel.  This was our first experience with this vintner (Nine North Wine Co.) but we love other Zinfandels from the Lodi region of California so we had high hopes.

As my routine goes, I sniffed the bouquet first.  (For you non-wine drinkers that means I smelled the wine before I tasted it.)  I made a face.  Mr. Aitch asked what was wrong.  I told him it smelled like armpit.  Sweaty armpit.  It was just as though the smell from the weightlifter on the label and cork permeated the fermented grapes in the bottle.

Was the back label a clue?  Hurly burly!

We thought it was perhaps the pairing of the food and wine that wasn’t quite right.Hullabaloo-wine-cork

But what do you pair with an armpit?

The two best things about this bottle of wine are its cork and label.  Of course this is just my opinion.

A new direction…with wine

When I started this blog, I planned on writing about knitting.  Hence the name: Knitting in Flashes.  I’m expanding my writing to include not only knitting, decluttering, redecorating, sewing, and other crafting delights, but the rest of my life, which I thought was going to end last night.

Mr. Aitch and I have friends.  We have friends that drink wine.  We have friends that occasionally give us wine.

Last night we tried one of the wines we recently received.  It’s made by some hippies in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Mr. Aitch poured generous glasses for both of us.

The bouquet was flowery with hints of raspberries and honey.  It also had touches of  “fragrant” tea and raisins.  Whatever.  I like raspberries and honey.  I drink tea.  It was ok.  Sweet but ok.  For the first few sips.

I was enjoying our lovely dinner of roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn and sipping the wine when all of a sudden I grabbed my chest to pull out the burning arrow that I was sure pierced my bosom and set me on fire.

My friends, this was not your everyday heartburn.  This was heart inferno.

Mr. Aitch, the ever attentive husband that he is, noticed my extreme discomfort and rushed to get me some strong antacids.  Fifteen minutes later the flames were extinguished and I knew I would live.

I should have known that when Mr. Aitch took one sip and wanted to give me the rest of his glass, that something was wrong.  One sip for Mr. Aitch  was one sip too many.

Train FOs and WIP

I went to a conference (work related)  in Philadelphia this past week.  Knitting on the train was great.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to any yarn shops.  The closest yarn shops hours didn’t work out with my schedule.  I packed enough yarn for several projects but not enough clothes.  In fact I ran out of clothes.  Oops!

FOs: 2 swiffer covers, an apple cosy.   All made from Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn in Black, Cottage Twists, and Hot Green.

WIP: A very good start on a soaker (using this and this)  for one of my granddaughters using Cascade 220 (Green color???) and Sensations Kashmira (Aqua, discontinued).

Swiffer covers, apple cosy, soaker

The apple cosy has a red bag in it as I didn’t have any apples.  The leaf is a felt cut out that I sewed on instead of the knitted one in the directions.  I also found a cute lady bug button.  The one swiffer cover in the center is truly made from leftover yarn from all the other things I made from that yarn.   I do see a pattern with my color choices.  I like green.

I needed the dpns from the Ruffled Bottle Sleeve (Knitted Gifts) for the soaker so I finished it Sunday afternoon.  I used about 10 yards of leftover sock yarn for each.

Nothing like a well dressed wine bottle.
