I’m full…

…of cupcakes.  Well, to be more precise I’m full of cupcake hats.

Using leftover yarn from other projects, I finished these last week but only got them photographed yesterday.

The hat with the light buttercream icing is for a 5-year old.  The one with the rich, chocolate icing is for her 16-year old sister.  I’m not sure if the 16-year old really wanted the hat or if the mother wanted her to have the hat.

Cherry pattern: Cherries are the Bomb

I cast on 8 more stitches for the larger hat, knit the ribbing another inch and started the decreases when the hat was 9-inches from the cast on edge.

I used a different method for the bobbles than the original pattern calls for and I don’t remember where I got the instructions.  The bobbles are 5-stitch bobbles, which means that each bobble has 25 stitches in it resulting in one row with 560 stitches.

I’m not a fan of bobbles.

The buttercream icing hat has a total of 4,363 stitches including the cherry.  The chocolate hat has 6,112 stitches including the cherry.

Great trip

Mr. Aitch and I got home around 12:15 this afternoon.  It takes us awhile to get back into the groove of things but I wanted to tell you about the fair my brother and I went to on Saturday.  There’s still time for you to go…if you’re in the area.

My brother and I went to the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair which is held annually in Mt. Sunapee Resort in Newbury, New Hampshire.  This is no typical “craft fair”.  The exhibitors are professionals.

One of the booths we visited was full of these fantastic felted hats made by Carrie Cahill Mulligan.  The details Carrie adds, like embroidering the brim and hand stitching satin ribbon on the inside, take this to the next level from knitter/felter to fiber artist.

Forgive my blurry photos from my phone but I had to have a reminder of these beautiful hats.  Carrie’s booth was so crowded that I could only get to the outside displays and these couple of hats really caught my eye.  These colors are as soft as the hats.

My brother is holding a credit card next to the knitted hat before felting as a point of reference to the size.

For more details, visit Carrie’s website.

I’ve been a bit scared to felt anything on purpose but these hats really inspire me to take the next step.

Been busy

The soaker was sent yesterday and as soon as I know it was received I will post pictures.

I knit three hats last week.  One for a friend, one for Mr. Aitch, and one for me.

Joe's hat

Yes, I actually knit myself a hat.  I wasn’t going to make one for me but when I went to work on Tuesday, it was bitter cold and the wind was really blowing.  I was going to mail the hat to my friend right after work so I had it with me.  I took it out of the bag and wore it from my car into the office building.  It kept my head warm but most of all it kept my ears warm.  I only had the hat on for about 3-4 minutes and didn’t have “hat hair” so I decided I needed one of these hats for these bitter cold days.

I also knit up an iPhone cozy.  I don’t have an iPhone but I see one in my future.
