Happy dance

Have you ever had one of those days where one teeny, tiny, insignificant, little thing just sets you off and all sorts of nastiness leaks out?  No?  Trust me, it’s not pretty.  That was me yesterday.

The details aren’t important but it set the tone for the day.  I stopped in a store after work to buy some floss for the felt ornaments I want to make and I overheard someone ask if there was something wrong with the water as everyone was in a crabby mood.   So it wasn’t just me.

The day ended up much better than it started.  I finished (except for weaving in the ends) Ms Ida Chain Link Mittens.  Happy Dancing ensued!!

Sorry, no pictures of Ms Ida until they are safely on or in the recipient’s hands.

Mirror, mirror

Our dinner party turned out wonderfully.  Even though I had a few green beans fall under the steaming basket and cause a bit of a smoky flavoring, one of my friends said she really liked the smokiness.  I didn’t tell her what happened.

I gave the slippers to my friend and she loved them.  I think they were the first knitted item I’ve given her.  I must remedy that.

Great food, great wine, great company.

I promised a picture of the wine glass markers I made the other night.  (Click on the picture to enlarge.)  They were a big hit with the women.  The men, well, they were mildly impressed.

Wine Glass Markers

A few nights ago while I was setting out these wine glasses, I looked up and saw my reflection in the mirror above the buffet.  Sometimes I’m surprised by what I see.

Most of the time I just see the parts of the face and not the whole.  Sometimes I see a tired woman.  Sometimes I see a sad woman.  And sometimes I see an old woman I just don’t recognize.  But this time a contented, confident, relaxed, and (if I may be so bold to say) beautiful woman looked back at me.  And I was surprised.  She’s my favorite woman who I see in the mirror.

Every now and then I see myself as beautiful and that evening was one of those times.  It completely caught me off guard.

Who do you see in the mirror?

Score!

I did it!  I finished the slippers in record time.  And sewed on the soles. And made pom poms.

I used dark green heather Lionbrand Wooleze and some variegated acrylic yarn from a sweater that didn’t fit right.  I love the muted colors.  I hope my friend does, too.

You can also see the “tree” fabric on my chairs.  The flash washed out the intensity a bit on the seat.

WIP and a not quite FO

Some people reserve Wednesdays for WIPs (work-in-progress projects) and Fridays for FOs (finished objects).  With me you get a WIP or an FO when I remember to post one or the other or, in this case, both.

I’m not quite finished with the orange seamless slippers I knit  but decided to take a picture of them anyway.  I just need to sew on the soles (black oval shapes) and make pom poms.

Orange seamless slippers

These were originally for me so I decided to cast on another pair using free green yarn and the variegated color to put away for later use or gifting.

Green seamless slippers WIP

The green is much brighter than this picture shows but since I’m a green person, I love the color.  Mr. Aitch is a blue person.  Anyway, I have two  mistakes in these slippers.   The first mistake I discovered is the unslipped stitch on the back faux seam.  It’s hard to see in the photo but it’s very obvious in person.  A rib of stockinette stitches run up the triangle faux seam.  There’s a big bump there.  The second mistake is that I increased a stitch on the sole.  Not that big of a deal but I know it’s there.  So I decided to put away the orange ones and keep the green ones for me.

Ms Ida mittens are slowly coming along.  The slippers are semi mindless knitting and I needed something like that this weekend while I was trying to declutter and clean my house for a party we’re having this weekend.

Don’t forget to leave a comment about how you feel about your birthday (or birthdays in general) to win the five October Stitch markers.  Deadline is midnight EST tonight.
