THSS II Sailing School

I’m finally back on track with Helen Stewart’s The Handmade Sock Society Season II from 2019.  I last posted about these socks in November.

I made some headway on them while traveling then life happened and I got sidetracked.  Does that happen to you, too?

Anyway, now that the Ruana and quilt are finished (along with some other projects I’ll post about later), I’ve picked up the fifth sock pattern and making great progress!

The yarn was from our trip last October called Gloomy Gus.  I love how the blues and greens flow into each other.

Sock one is finished (except for the kitchener stitch toe) and the ribbing for the second sock is done.  I’m hoping these will be in my sock drawer by the end of the week.

Are you working on any WIPs (works in progress)?

I’m leaving

Again.  It’s not such a long story and the details are unimportant.  I’m leaving on a jet plane…. to Colorado to take care of our grandchildren, granddogs (and grand chickens) for a few days.  Nothing serious happened, just a glitch and I’m so happy that I get to see them all so soon!

Mr. Aitch can’t go as we are in the midst of some home maintenance issues and someone has to stay home.

The grands will be in school Thursday and Friday, I just have to get them there and back home again.  We will have a great time on Saturday and Sunday. Mom and Dad will be home Sunday evening and I’ll be back in West, by God, Virginia on Monday.

It will be a whirlwind trip and I’ll be taking two knitting projects with me: Scrubby Sparkle and the fifth pattern in The Handmade Sock Society II. I’ll be using the Grumpy Gus yarn I bought last month to knit Sailing School Socks!

Cornish Cream Tea

The fourth pair of socks in The Handmade Sock Society II, Cornish Cream Tea, are finished and ready to be gifted.  These were done before our vacation but I didn’t have time to post about them.

I’ve enjoyed all of the socks in this series so far and the fifth pattern was released about two weeks ago.

The yarn is Knit Picks Stroll in a tonal color called Thunderhead.  I love all the subtle shades of greys.

For some reason, the number of rows knitted between the end of the gusset and beginning of the toe decreases just wasn’t long enough to fit my foot as with the other three pairs of socks.  Same needle size, same brand and weight of yarn.  Perhaps the pattern down the front of the leg and foot doesn’t stretch as much as the previous ones.

But my SIL will love them!

Weekend update

My SIL loved the sock and it fit her tiny foot perfectly.  So I’ve begun sock #2 and have the ribbing and two pattern repeats finished so far.

Our motorcycle trip went well.  We got to try out our new helmets (with communication devices) and our new rain suits.  We don’t talk much while riding but sometimes I can see the route we need and remind Mr. Aitch when he doesn’t notice it so it can save us some backtracking.  Fortunately, the rain suits were really only needed the first 15 miles on our way home but we kept them on the rest of the 4-hour ride.  Win-win.
