Weekend

I woke up early for a Saturday – 8:00.

Guest bathroom – Fixed the 2-3 year-old water damage on the ceiling.  Still have to paint it.  The bathroom was all clean and shiny until I looked at the trim.  I’ve been meaning to repaint the trim for years but never got around to it.  Until Saturday. Done.

Washed, dried, folded, and put away two loads of laundry.

Made cornbread and soup for lunch.

Hung the garland on the front porch with Mr. Aitch.  Finished taking in all the porch and deck furniture.  Rolled up the rug from the front porch.  All put neatly away for the winter.  Mr. Aitch swept the porch.

Cut the fabric for one of the quilt tops.

Jambalaya with chicken (no sausage) for dinner).

Cut more fabric for the second quilt top.

Went to bed.

Sunday morning – church.  It started snowing during Mass and when we left the church, about 2 inches had fallen.

Went to the market.  It was crowded for a Sunday morning when I arrived but quickly cleared out as the snow kept piling up outside.

Groceries put away.

Pancakes and sausage for lunch.

Roast beef with carrots, celery, and onions in the oven.  It smelled so good.

Pieced one quilt top together.  No photo as it was a dark dreary day.

Added potatoes to the roast beef concoction in the oven.

Watched a part of “The Crossing” with Mr. Aitch until dinner was ready.

Lovely roast beef and vegetables.  And a bottle of wine, of course.

Finished watching “The Crossing” with Mr. Aitch.

Checked email.

Did an Internet search for a free knitted pattern for a newsboy cap aka bakers cap, golf cap, ivy cap, English driving cap for a small child.  No luck.  Found crocheted patterns.  Don’t crochet.

Turned on the dishwasher and went to bed with a book, “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak.  Couldn’t stop reading until my eyes got too tired.

The alarm clock went off at 6:00 this morning.  I turned it off and fell back asleep for 45 more minutes.  That happens more often than I care to admit.

The schools and colleges were closed today due to the snow storm and freezing rain.  I had no trouble getting to work.

And so it goes.

I did it

I got the dining room table cleared off.

Please disregard the dead leaves on those plants.

I didn’t get it finished last night because I had to organize some of the felt and paper stuff as everything was in a hundred different places.  It’s consolidated.  For now.

And I posted on this blog Every.  Single.  Day.  In.  November.  My first NaBloPoMo – National Blog Post Month.  It was hard.  I stopped blogging regularly and now I’m recharged.

I’m going to take care of those dead leaves on those plants in the dining room.  Funny how you don’t “see” something until it’s in a photograph.

Items in the spice cabinet

The other day I showed you the antique spice cabinet I had from my Mom.   Inside one of the drawers was an assemblage of various items.  The drawer itself is not large, about 4 inches wide by 4 inches deep.

The shaker

Salt? Pepper? Something else?  The holes are rather large and there are a lot of them.  One quick shake of any spice would be more than enough.

It’s about 3 inches tall and less than an inch in diameter.  Heavy for the size.  Not sure what metal.  I do love the floral and leaf texture on this piece.

The oil lamps

These little gems used to contain perfume or eau du cologne.  A faint scent still lingers.  One has lost the handle but has a very small dried flower stuck in the shade.

Mary

When closed, this looks like a small brass pipe with enclosed ends.  But turning the outer layer reveals a small statue of Our Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of Jesus.  Small enough to fit in a pocket of purse, Mary can be with one always.

The brass candlesticks

Birthday cake candles fit in these less-than-two-inches tall candlesticks.

The trophy candlestick

Actually I’m not sure what this is.  A birthday cake candle would be too small to fit in it without wobbling.  Perhaps there are missing parts to this piece.

The trio

A Venetian blind cord pull.  A large picture hook and nail.  A small gear.

The assemblage.

Always drink milk

During the summer, we work four 10-hour days and have off either Mondays or Fridays.  I chose Mondays.

On this particular Monday Mr. Aitch and I tackled the basement stairs and the area to the right of the stairs.  There was a shelving unit with stuff on it from when we moved in 19 years ago.  Still in the moving boxes.

I know that some people would say to not open the boxes and just toss it.  If anything inside the boxes was important, it would have been retrieved long ago.

I would have tossed this:

My sister had a blue one.  I remember drinking hot cocoa from this cup.  And eating toasted homemade bread with peanut butter and homemade grape jelly.

The rest of the stuff was assorted glassware that I will probably donate to Goodwill.  I just don’t have the energy to have a yard sale.

I would love to see and display the things that I love and that are important to me.  I just have to find the right piece of furniture to do that.

Cleaning doesn’t bother me.  It’s dealing with all of the stuff that I hate.  And deciding what to do with all the stuff makes me physically sick.
