A short pictureless post

I usually post in the mornings but I was out of town this weekend and am just now settling in for the evening.

No knitting was done this weekend.  I went to celebrate the twin’s second birthday.  I did take my knitting with me but just didn’t feel like getting it out.

Spending time with the girls, my daughter and son-in-law kept me entertained and two-year-olds are so curious.  I didn’t want them undoing all my work.  Plus I injured myself.

Also no knitting pictures.  The girls were too tired to try on their new hats.  They will be coming to our house for Christmas so I might get some pictures of them.

My sister received the Ms Ida mittens.  I hope she remembers to send me a picture of her wearing the mittens.

Gifting

Wrapped up for gifting today.  It will be cold enough for the twins to wear their new hats.  I hope I remember to take pictures.

On another note (pun intended) Mr. Aitch and I went to a concert last night to hear and see his favorite band of all time: Spyro Gyra.  They are described as an American jazz fusion band.  You’ve probably heard their music even if you don’t recognize their name.

It was great.  Our table was right up front.   Mr. Aitch bought their new Christmas CD and had it autographed.   He told Jay Beckenstein (original member) that he’s never stood in line for anyone’s autograph in his entire life.  I took their picture for posterity.  The lighting was bad and I was using my phone.  Mr. Aitch doesn’t care.  He’s happy.

I changed my mind

Do you remember a few weeks ago when I posted about wanting to knit this sweater?

With this yarn?

Papaya Heather

Well, I changed my mind.  I still love the sweater but I don’t think I will like for me.  The bottom would hit at certain part of my body that I would want covered.  And warm.  And though I have no problem wearing long-sleeved shirts under short-sleeved sweaters, I don’t think I can pull off that fashion statement anymore.

So what do I have my sights set on now?

Knit Simple Button Cardigan Fall 2008

Of course I love this green however I will be using the Knit Picks Papaya Heather.  But I don’t have enough.  I need two more balls.

No, I’m not starting this now.  I have too much knitting to do before Christmas.

Besides when I’m ready to start knitting, I may change my mind again.  I will order enough yarn to make this pattern…just in case.

So far half good

Progress on the felt ornaments.  Here are the felt pieces with the freezer paper ironed on one side.

Felt and freezer paper

This was really easy to do.  The iron was on a medium setting (permanent press without steam on my iron).  Just keep the iron moving and made sure the steam is turned off.  I drew right on the paper and cut the shapes out with regular scissors.

Paper side up

These are the two ornaments that I finished and I realize my embroidery skills aren’t the greatest.  I’m not very happy with the tree.  I was going for snow-covered branch tips and I think they look like cow udders or something else.  It’s a bit too busy.  You can also see the other shapes I have cut out so far.

Two down, many more to go

Here’s a close-up.  The colors are deeper but I took what light I could get.  There’s a little bit of fiber-fill between the pieces to give them some depth.  I remembered to insert the ribbon to hang it before I did the blanket stitch all the way around.

Two done, many more to go

Another close-up of reverse side tis time.  Those are tiny star sequins on the tree.

Reverse

I’m not sure how much I will get done tonight.  I still have the Musica mitts to finish.  I did make another Spud and Chloe hat last evening.  I must say that pattern is so quick and easy.  I knit it in less than two hours using stash yarn.  I still have the crochet edge and I-cords to do but those are relatively quick and easy, too.
