Finally

We got to our daughter’s house on New Year’s Day for our Christmas.  Weather was the big issue preventing up from going earlier.

These buttons:

Using this pattern:

Ended up like this:

E&Z-Christmas-2012-001

This is Z sporting her new sweater.

E&Z-Christmas-2012-004

Z is on the left and E is on the right.  Getting one person to stand still is hard.  Two is harder.

E&Z-Christmas-2012-007

E is on the left and Z is on the right.  Z was finished modeling.  She wanted to play a game.

The sweaters are size 6 and they are a bit large for them but that just means they can wear them longer.

Button, button

Ok, so a couple of months ago my daughter found a great deal on some buttons: $.97 a card.  She said they would make great buttons for sweaters for the twins.  I agreed.

The I asked her if she wanted me to knit sweaters for the twins.  Her reply was “maybe”.  I told her that if she wanted me to knit sweaters, she would have to say she did.  “Maybe” didn’t work for me.

Maybe turned into yes.

And in washable wool.

The pattern is the Sawtelle sweater from Berroco yarns:

Fortunately my LYS was having a sale on some washable wool: Louet Gems.  I took the buttons to the store and decided on two colors that would work with the buttons and keep my interest.  The colors of yarn available were limited and I did not want to use the pink they had so the neutrals won out.

Granted it’s not the yarn they used but I’ve seldom used the same yarn listed for the pattern I choose.  Pewter and Grey Linen.  Though both colors sound like a grey color, both are clearly brownish tones.  They go well with the buttons.

So far this pattern is wonderful.  The only seams are at the shoulders.  I do believe there is an adult version available.

I’m working on the collar.  After that, I just need to sew on the buttons, weave in the ends and block it.  Then start on sweater #2.

Picking up

180 stitches to be exact.

The search and rescue mission to find my circular needles was successful yesterday morning.  So last night I did this:

Vine Vest 180 stitches

It didn’t take too long to pick up the 74 stitches on the right side and knit the 32 stitches from the neck but picking up the other 74 stitches along the left side took F.O.R.E.V.E.R.  I was trying to match as close as possible what I did on the right side but I would either have too many stitches or not enough.

After an hour and a half picking up, ripping out, and picking up over and over again those final 74 stitches, I got it right.

Then I went to bed.

Peony Twist finished

…minus the buttons.  I closed it with pins so excuse the front closure.

I know several people use Fridays as their day to post about finished things but I write about them when it happens.

I like the fit (see my Ravelry notes).

Peony Twist Cardi front

The color isn’t too bad either.

Peony Twist Cardi back

The little wave pattern is very nice.  I don’t think my shoulders are this broad.  I look like a linebacker!

Peony Twist Cardi side

Pattern: Tangerine Twist

Yarn: Knit Picks Comfy Worsted

Color: Peony Color #5606, Lot# 7595

Needles: US 4, 6, and 7

Size: Medium (39.5)

I used 7 balls of yarn but with shorter tales with casting on, I might have had enough with 6 balls of yarn.  I ripped out my swatch and used it as I thought I was going to run out of yarn.

According to the pattern, I should only need 8 buttons for this size.  Some how I ended up with 9 buttonholes.

Would I make this pattern again?  Yes.

I need to figure out what I’m doing for buttons first.
