Gifting

Wrapped up for gifting today.  It will be cold enough for the twins to wear their new hats.  I hope I remember to take pictures.

On another note (pun intended) Mr. Aitch and I went to a concert last night to hear and see his favorite band of all time: Spyro Gyra.  They are described as an American jazz fusion band.  You’ve probably heard their music even if you don’t recognize their name.

It was great.  Our table was right up front.   Mr. Aitch bought their new Christmas CD and had it autographed.   He told Jay Beckenstein (original member) that he’s never stood in line for anyone’s autograph in his entire life.  I took their picture for posterity.  The lighting was bad and I was using my phone.  Mr. Aitch doesn’t care.  He’s happy.

Another sucessful day

I woke up early this morning and decided to get some knitting done before things got too hectic.

Dr. Professor’s seamless slippers were packaged up ready to go to the  post office.

I decided to try knitting the strap for the Spud and Chloe hats using a smaller needle to make the stitching tighter.  That worked out much better.  I found some buttons in my stash but they were brass and didn’t look right with the silvery taupe yarn in the hats.  So I sprayed them with some silver spray paint.  Did I take before pictures?  No.  But you can see the back of the button and the original color.

Brass to silver buttons

Here’s a comparison on the two straps.  The original on is on the left and the tighter knit one on the right.  I think it looks better and has more substance.

I also wove in the ends on the mittens.  Next on the list: Soakers.  these don’t HAVE to be finished by December 10 but I’d like them to be.  Stay tuned for more updates…

Happy dance

Have you ever had one of those days where one teeny, tiny, insignificant, little thing just sets you off and all sorts of nastiness leaks out?  No?  Trust me, it’s not pretty.  That was me yesterday.

The details aren’t important but it set the tone for the day.  I stopped in a store after work to buy some floss for the felt ornaments I want to make and I overheard someone ask if there was something wrong with the water as everyone was in a crabby mood.   So it wasn’t just me.

The day ended up much better than it started.  I finished (except for weaving in the ends) Ms Ida Chain Link Mittens.  Happy Dancing ensued!!

Sorry, no pictures of Ms Ida until they are safely on or in the recipient’s hands.

Mirror, mirror

Our dinner party turned out wonderfully.  Even though I had a few green beans fall under the steaming basket and cause a bit of a smoky flavoring, one of my friends said she really liked the smokiness.  I didn’t tell her what happened.

I gave the slippers to my friend and she loved them.  I think they were the first knitted item I’ve given her.  I must remedy that.

Great food, great wine, great company.

I promised a picture of the wine glass markers I made the other night.  (Click on the picture to enlarge.)  They were a big hit with the women.  The men, well, they were mildly impressed.

Wine Glass Markers

A few nights ago while I was setting out these wine glasses, I looked up and saw my reflection in the mirror above the buffet.  Sometimes I’m surprised by what I see.

Most of the time I just see the parts of the face and not the whole.  Sometimes I see a tired woman.  Sometimes I see a sad woman.  And sometimes I see an old woman I just don’t recognize.  But this time a contented, confident, relaxed, and (if I may be so bold to say) beautiful woman looked back at me.  And I was surprised.  She’s my favorite woman who I see in the mirror.

Every now and then I see myself as beautiful and that evening was one of those times.  It completely caught me off guard.

Who do you see in the mirror?
