Almost finished…

The dresses are almost finished.  I have had some hand sewing and the buttonholes and buttons left to do.  Or maybe I’ll do some other type of closure.

Still side 1

Side 2

I really like them.  And I brought them to work to show one of my co-workers.

Then something bad happened.

Really bad.

Have you ever had something so disastrous and incredible happen that you can’t believe it is true?  No one died but something got very damaged.  Shredded to be exact.

This thing is the size of a washing machine!

Zoom in to see the name.

This sucker is heavy-duty.  It’s not called “DestroyIt” for nothing.

And I was standing next to it when I was showing the dresses to my coworker.  Why was this beast turned on in the first place?  I don’t know.

Shocking

More shocking

It’s just the back.  “Just the back” she says.

I can repair it.

I think.

Right now I just want to throw up, cry, and go home.

WIP Wednesday

I started on another Leafy Washcloth Monday evening while listening to the concert in the park.  I got half of it done.

Yes.  It’s purple.  I grabbed my knitting bag without making sure I had the right color yarn.  Whatever.

Last night I decided I needed to make summer dresses for the twins.  I’m using a pattern from when my daughter (the twin’s mother) was little.  The dresses are reversible so I had to cut out four fronts and four backs.  By the time I got the pieces cut out, the light wasn’t good enough to get any pictures.  I should get them sewn up tonight.

I will be seeing them on Monday and hope to take the finished dresses with me.

Grosgrain

Sorry for being silent for the past several days.  Nothing exciting to report, just life.  Regular life stuff.

Thank you all for commenting about stabilizing the front button band.  I will try option 1 and sew grosgrain ribbon behind the buttons hoping that will solve the uncomfortable feeling like it’s gaping open.  As usual, I don’t have the right ribbon in my sewing room so I’ll have to buy some either today or tomorrow.

This striped ribbon would be nice but I won’t find anything like this where I live.  I’ve already looked.

We’ve been invited to a retirement dinner Friday evening for six, count ’em SIX, of Mr. Aitch’s former co-workers that are retiring this year.  That’s a lot of teachers for a small school.  I have to hem a new pair of Mr. Aitch’s pants before then and I want to wear my Peony Twist Cardi so sewing the ribbon on is vital if I wear the sweater.  I may have to come up with Plan B if I don’t get the ribbon sewn on.  Mr. Aitch’s pants come first…this time.  He doesn’t have a Plan B.

So far half good

Progress on the felt ornaments.  Here are the felt pieces with the freezer paper ironed on one side.

Felt and freezer paper

This was really easy to do.  The iron was on a medium setting (permanent press without steam on my iron).  Just keep the iron moving and made sure the steam is turned off.  I drew right on the paper and cut the shapes out with regular scissors.

Paper side up

These are the two ornaments that I finished and I realize my embroidery skills aren’t the greatest.  I’m not very happy with the tree.  I was going for snow-covered branch tips and I think they look like cow udders or something else.  It’s a bit too busy.  You can also see the other shapes I have cut out so far.

Two down, many more to go

Here’s a close-up.  The colors are deeper but I took what light I could get.  There’s a little bit of fiber-fill between the pieces to give them some depth.  I remembered to insert the ribbon to hang it before I did the blanket stitch all the way around.

Two done, many more to go

Another close-up of reverse side tis time.  Those are tiny star sequins on the tree.

Reverse

I’m not sure how much I will get done tonight.  I still have the Musica mitts to finish.  I did make another Spud and Chloe hat last evening.  I must say that pattern is so quick and easy.  I knit it in less than two hours using stash yarn.  I still have the crochet edge and I-cords to do but those are relatively quick and easy, too.
