Tall tree???

This is a New Hampshire cell phone tower being disguised to look like a pine tree.  A very tall pine tree.

Looks a lot less offensive than most cell phone towers.  I wish they’d do that to the one that’s very visible from my front door.

Ah, but I don’t live in New Hampshire…

Great trip

Mr. Aitch and I got home around 12:15 this afternoon.  It takes us awhile to get back into the groove of things but I wanted to tell you about the fair my brother and I went to on Saturday.  There’s still time for you to go…if you’re in the area.

My brother and I went to the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair which is held annually in Mt. Sunapee Resort in Newbury, New Hampshire.  This is no typical “craft fair”.  The exhibitors are professionals.

One of the booths we visited was full of these fantastic felted hats made by Carrie Cahill Mulligan.  The details Carrie adds, like embroidering the brim and hand stitching satin ribbon on the inside, take this to the next level from knitter/felter to fiber artist.

Forgive my blurry photos from my phone but I had to have a reminder of these beautiful hats.  Carrie’s booth was so crowded that I could only get to the outside displays and these couple of hats really caught my eye.  These colors are as soft as the hats.

My brother is holding a credit card next to the knitted hat before felting as a point of reference to the size.

For more details, visit Carrie’s website.

I’ve been a bit scared to felt anything on purpose but these hats really inspire me to take the next step.

Dartmouth hats

Dartmouth College Skiway is where my brother spends his working hours.  So I decided to knit some earflap hats in Dartmouth Green for him and his wife.

Other than substituting the yarn (I can’t get Spud & Chloe yarn locally and prefer to see it in person before I buy) and eliminating the ties, I followed to pattern exactly.  Cascade 220 in Jet and Forest Green. It’s not a perffect match to Dartmouth Green but it’s close enough.   Sometimes it’s hard to find the exact school colors in yarn.  Using less than one skein of each color for both hats, I still have some yarn leftover for another small project.  Maybe matching mitts?

Mr. Aitch and I sometimes have a hard time telling the front from the back on our hats so I wove in a small piece of yellow yarn along the back crocheted edge on these.

It’s not visible on the outside and should be bright enough to see in the dark days of winter.

Hostess gifts

Mr. Aitch and I rode the Harley to my brother’s in New Hampshire and I thought I’d post pictures of some of the gifts we are giving to our host and hostess.

These are a few of the Leafy Washcloths I knitted using these this pattern and this one.

I found these cute leaf-shaped soaps and thought they would be the perfect complement to the wash cloths.

My sister-in-law loved them!
