Knitting therapy

On Saturday we went to visit our son and his family.  We took the Harley so I didn’t get any knitting done while traveling.  Their town was celebrating Heritage Day and we did a walking tour to the various sites.

We probably walked 2-3 miles.  It was partly cloudy and the temperature was a pleasant 73 degrees.  A great day to be outside.

Here’s a photo extracted from a video Mr. Aitch made of us sitting on the front porch of one of the mansions we toured.  It’s not as sharp as a still photo would be.

Jayne, me, Bishop

Hey, there’s my Dots and Stripes purse, too!  I wore my Herringbone Neck warmer on the ride there but obviously am not wearing it here.  I digress.  Sorry.

My granddaughter walked a good bit of the way and her mom or dad carried her some of the time, too.  Then  she decided she didn’t want anyone else to carry her except me.  So I did.  She probably weighs 20-30 pounds and everyone was concerned about my back and how sore it would be on Sunday.

It wasn’t my back that hurt.  It was my right arm.  I carried her mostly on my left side but it was the way I was supporting her (and my left arm) with my right arm that did me in.

I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to knit but I did knit a few rows on the Vine Vest and my arm felt much better.  As you may recall I wasn’t sure if I would have enough yarn to make this vest.  I used one entire ball of yarn so far on the ribbing around the front and neck edging and still have about another inch of ribbing before it’s finished.  I will have some yarn left over.

Smoosh be gone

I’ve decided to join a Smoosh Camp with Cindy to get rid of some unwanted smoosh.  Not the yarny smoosh but the fatty smoosh around my waist (aka muffin top) and other body parts.  So instead of knitting during lunch, I’ve been walking around our building.  I started walking last week when we had some warmer weather so it’s not exactly new for me.  It’s gotten cold here the past several days with strong winds but I’ve still walked.

I started knitting a lot more a few years ago to keep my hands busy in the evening when I’d want a snack.  That worked great as I didn’t snack.  I would keep my pattern on the coffee table in front of me and every time I completed a row, I basically did a crunch/sit up when I leaned forward to mark off the row.  Now all I want to do is sit and knit.  And my pattern is beside me so I don’t even have to move much to mark off a completed row.

My leather motorcycle pants are getting snug.  When I first got them in 2005, I could wear them over my jeans and pants when I went to work.  I can barely get them fastened now without the pants underneath.  I don’t have $200+  lying around to get another pair.

Weight is just a number (like age) and though I’m trying to get to a certain number, I know it’s really about how I feel in my skin and clothes.  My skin is getting tighter.  So are my clothes.

Do you do any exercises you when you knit?

It’s Shi-day

So Happy It’s Thursday.    One more day until the weekend.

On my way to work I heard Y.M.C.A by the Village People. It’s a very popular song around here played at all kinds of social events particularly weddings.  I wanted to jump out of the car and dance.  Not a good idea while driving at 65 mph.

The sun is shining.  The grass is green.  The trees have that wonderful spring greeniness about them.

Last night I was busy doing other things but still managed to knit 3 rows on the final front ribbing on the Vine Vest.  Only 17 -22 more to go.  It all depends on how far the rest of the yarn will go.

Then I’ll have the button dilemma again.  I know the original vest doesn’t have buttons but I don’t like things that flop around so I want to have some type of closure along the front edge.   I’ll have more options on how to wear it.

Picking up

180 stitches to be exact.

The search and rescue mission to find my circular needles was successful yesterday morning.  So last night I did this:

Vine Vest 180 stitches

It didn’t take too long to pick up the 74 stitches on the right side and knit the 32 stitches from the neck but picking up the other 74 stitches along the left side took F.O.R.E.V.E.R.  I was trying to match as close as possible what I did on the right side but I would either have too many stitches or not enough.

After an hour and a half picking up, ripping out, and picking up over and over again those final 74 stitches, I got it right.

Then I went to bed.
