More bags

These little bags make a great gift idea that only takes about an hour or two to complete.  Of course, when making 28, it takes a bit longer.

The small “what-not” bags I sewed together for our church’s fundraiser are finished.  Some are made with vintage fabrics from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s and some are from this century.Small notions bagsEach one is different in some way.  Some have different zipper colors or different lining fabrics, or both.

Now to pack them up and get them to the church for the Christmas Tea this Saturday.

What-not bags

In my never-ending quest to reduce the junk, I mean stuff in my house, I decided (at the last minute) to make 25-30 small bags to donate to my church for an upcoming fundraising tea and luncheon. These bags can be used for craft projects, cosmetics, pens, pencils, crayons, baby supplies, gift bags….

Box bags are too time-consuming so I’m sewing another bag similar to the ones shown at the bottom of this post.

Using some new as well as vintage fabrics from iPad aunt’s and my M-I-L’s fabric stash along with zippers from my stash, I hope to be finished with this project by the end of the week.

Cutting the outer fabric, lining fabric and fleece interfacing takes a lot longer than one might expect.

I also have the bags broken down by thread color so I can set up an assembly line and whip through them quicker.

So that’s what I’ve been doing lately.  Any last-minute projects taking up your time?

Baby shower gifts

Mr. Aitch’s niece is expecting a baby boy in July and the baby shower was last Saturday.  I already posted about the quilt I made so here are the rest of the gifts.

Included are one dozen burp cloths that coördinate with the quilt.  Because ALL babies want to be coördinated.  =)

Three pieces of grey and white flannel: stars, diamonds, and buffalo check.

Mixed and matched for variety.

A baby sized dopp bag (box bag) for pacifiers, ointments, cotton swabs, or any other item that needs to be corralled inside a diaper bag made with leftover fabric from the quilt.

And a larger box bag for, well, larger things, also from leftover quilt fabric.

I love those bears!

Both bags together.

New quilt

Mr. Aitch’s niece is expecting in July and I thought I’d make something as that’s what I do.  Her theme is woodlands, bears specifically.

The baby shower is later this month and knitting a blanket wasn’t going to happen so sewing something was quicker.

I bought this cute bear fabric (by Emma & Mila at Wal-Mart) and coordinating blues and grey for the top as well as some white tone-on-tone star fabric and star embossed grey minky.

The solid grey and pale teal blocks help transition between the two colors.

Machine sewn and quilted with an X secured the top and backing with a thin layer of batting between.

The finished quilt is 45 inches square.  The back looks metallic but that’s just how the light reflected off the furry surface.  I have more fabric left so I’m thinking of sewing a few accessories such as burp cloths and at least one box bag.  Any other suggestions?
