Goodies and special days

Do you remember a few weeks ago I made many loaves of quick breads to help heat up the house when we had several days of bitter cold temperatures?

We had a slight reprieve right after that.  Only sight.  The temps actually made it into double digits!

Well, last week I did made several more loaves of quick breads as we had several days of bitter cold temperatures again.

Only I didn’t keep all the breads for us.

I mailed a care package of goodies to my aunt.

Did you also know that February has six, count ’em, SIX ***Special Days***?

  • February 2 – Ground Hog Day.  He saw his shadow.  Six more weeks of winter.  It was also Super Bowl Sunday in the US.  Great day for Seahawks fans.  Broncos fans?  Not so much.  😦  (Sorry TW)
  • February 12 – Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday.  The 16th US President.
  • February 14 – Valentine’s Day.  A day to show those you love that you love them.
  • February 17 – President’s Day.  To honor all US Presidents.
  • February 22 – George Washington’s Birthday.  The 1st US President.
  • February 23 –  Evelyn Kreidle’s Birthday.  My aunt: the BEST aunt and a truly, wonderful, second mom to our family.  I always felt that she and I had a special bond as we were both “the middle child.”

Do you have any other “Special” days this month?

February Calendar Clipart

Budding beauties

The twins spent the weekend before Mother’s Day with us while our daughter and son-in-law went away for the weekend.  I thought I’d help the girls make cards for Mother’s Day.

I took photos of them pointing to their eyes, a paper heart taped to their chests and the camera.  Then I made an accordion card and added some text and headless flowers.

The card wasn’t ready for them to take home (and I didn’t want them to know everything about it as one of them can’t keep a surprise) so I mailed it to our son-in-law.  I had to talk to him first so he knew what to do with it when he got it.

I included various flower and bug stickers for them to use to decorate the cards.

I think they did a wonderful job!  Their mom was so surprised!

Gift idea for mother-to-be

Looking for a useful but unique gift for a new mom or mother-to-be?  Make some burp cloths.

I made these a few weeks ago for Mr. Aitch’s niece who’s expecting her first baby in February.  I used a few different prints and coordianted them with the baby bedding.

The tutorial is on my tutorial page.  You can make two out of one  yard of flannel or get creative and use two ro more coordinating prints and solids.  My original ones were made out of leftover pieces of flannel as well as some cut up flannel sheets and even a few of Mr. Aitch’s too-small-but-still-good flannel shirts.  Just make sure you pre-shrink the flannel as it will shrink…A LOT!!  I can’t stress that enough.  Pre-shrink!!
