Crochet success

I managed to do two rows of the single crochet edge on the sleeve edge of the cardi I’m knitting and only had to rip it once.  I was picking up too many stitches.  The fronts and back are blocked and should be dry by the time I get home from work.  I still have to block the sleeves but I can do that while I finish the collar. 

The final steps are to do the seaming, do the crocheted edge at the bottom and sew on the buttons, which I don’t have yet.  Maybe I will make some if I can’t find what I want.

I’m very excited about this sweater.  I just hope it fits and I like it, no, LOVE it!

I hope to have some pictures of it this weekend.

Now for the hard part

I finished the knitting on the cardi I’m working on and I still have the crocheted edging to do on the cuff on the sleeves before I block the pieces and sew them together.  Then I have the collar to knit.

Now I just learned to do one row of single crochet on the edges of the hats I  finished last month.  This sweater takes two rows of single crochet. 

I have such a mental block about crocheting.  Why am I making this so hard?

Can you tell me the secret?

This is what I call a hank of yarn.

Periwinkle, Sky Blue, Aqua, Lime

When I purchase a hank of yarn, I make it into a ball, usually a center pull ball.  Mr. Aitch holds the yarn with outstretched arms and I wind it into a nice center pull ball of yarn.

I don’t do that with yarn already in a center pull ball-type skein like these.  I think they are ready to go.

I call these "center pull" skeins

 I usually pull out the middle hoping to find the end but most of the time it looks like it was disemboweled.

What’s the secret in finding the end of the yarn in the center of a skein of yarn?  Or do I have it all wrong?

Should I rewind these into my own ball so I can pull the yarn out from the center?

Anyone?
