Winging it

I started making a soaker on my business trip to Philadelphia at the end of September.  I knit on the train and in my hotel room and used elements from two different patterns: Curly Purly Soakers and Das Monster Pants.

It had been two and a half months since I looked at the patterns and knitting and I had no idea where I was.  My notes were almost worthless.  So I’m winging it.

Pictures later…

Another sucessful day

I woke up early this morning and decided to get some knitting done before things got too hectic.

Dr. Professor’s seamless slippers were packaged up ready to go to the  post office.

I decided to try knitting the strap for the Spud and Chloe hats using a smaller needle to make the stitching tighter.  That worked out much better.  I found some buttons in my stash but they were brass and didn’t look right with the silvery taupe yarn in the hats.  So I sprayed them with some silver spray paint.  Did I take before pictures?  No.  But you can see the back of the button and the original color.

Brass to silver buttons

Here’s a comparison on the two straps.  The original on is on the left and the tighter knit one on the right.  I think it looks better and has more substance.

I also wove in the ends on the mittens.  Next on the list: Soakers.  these don’t HAVE to be finished by December 10 but I’d like them to be.  Stay tuned for more updates…

Happy dance

Have you ever had one of those days where one teeny, tiny, insignificant, little thing just sets you off and all sorts of nastiness leaks out?  No?  Trust me, it’s not pretty.  That was me yesterday.

The details aren’t important but it set the tone for the day.  I stopped in a store after work to buy some floss for the felt ornaments I want to make and I overheard someone ask if there was something wrong with the water as everyone was in a crabby mood.   So it wasn’t just me.

The day ended up much better than it started.  I finished (except for weaving in the ends) Ms Ida Chain Link Mittens.  Happy Dancing ensued!!

Sorry, no pictures of Ms Ida until they are safely on or in the recipient’s hands.

Slowly but surely

Soles are sewn on the seamless slippers for Dr. Professor.  I just need to get the in the mail.

Progress on Ms Ida.  Picked out the disastrous mitten tip I tried to Kitchener stitch instead of going with the pointy tips.  The Knit Picks Alpaca yarn is fabulous but sticks to itself.  The mittens should be warm if nothing else.  I went with the pointy tips after all.  This picture is old and doesn’t show that I’m finished with the mitten in the foreground but you can at least see what I tried to do there at the top.

I played on the computer last night when I should have been working on the thumb.   Did you know that if you search for images of “felt ornaments”, a plethora of felty goodness appears on the screen?
