Dropped stitch

I have been working sporatically on the Herringbone Neck Warmer for too long.  Of course I was knitting the peony Twist Cardi at the same time (which needs the ends woven in and buttons.)

Anyway Mr. Aitch performed in a concert last night and I went to listen.  He had to be there early so I took my neck warmer with me to knit before the concert started.

Herringbone Neck Warmer progress

Several people have commented about how difficult this stitch pattern is to fix if you miss a stitch or worse, drop a stitch.

Well, it happened that I dropped a stitch.  I tried to fix it but I could not figure out how.  So I had to unknit it stitch by stitch back to the missing stitch.

And I did it.  Fortunately it was only one row.  Just in time for the concert to start.

Dots and Stripes purse pattern available

Several bloggers mentioned last week about wanting to try stranded or Fairisle knitting.

Dots and stripes

I have a small project that would be a great introduction to stranded knitting.

Check it out there to the right on my Pattern page.  You can get more details from Ravelry.

I was inspired by the color work of Kristin Nicholas and the Traveler’s Pocket by Nancy Bush.  In fact I used the same motif in part of my color work and the same braided strap as in the Traveler’s Pocket.

The pattern is available in pdf.

The end of my yarn

No, I didn’t use all of my yarn.

I had three more inches to bind off on the collar of my Peony Twist cardi and I reached the end of the ball.  I’ve never had this happen to me and wasn’t sure what I should do.

End of the yarn

So I ripped it back to the beginning of the row.  I still have the sleeves to sew in so I’m going to do that before I bind off the collar since I will need more yarn for the seaming.  I’d rather rip back the collar a couple more rows and start a new ball farther back so I don’t have to deal with more weaving in on the bound off row.

I have one sleeve pinned in place.

Off to do my least favorite task: seaming.

Coffee or tea?

In my hometown we have (I think it’s still there) a place that roasts coffee and bags it to sell.  Theydidn’t roast coffee every day but when the wind was just right, you could smell it for miles.

coffee

My grandparents drank coffee.  I remember my grandmother having a big glass pot of coffee warming on the stove when we would stop there on Sundays after church.

Mr. Aitch grinds coffee beans every morning and the aroma is wonderful.

My best friend trained her kids to have a pot of fresh brewed coffee waiting for her when she got home from work.

The smell of coffee is a good memory for me.  It’s the smell of comfort.

I know a lot of people who can’t function without a cup of coffee first thing in thh morning.

Me?  I don’t drink the stuff.  Love the smell but not the taste.  My parents would occasionally drink coffee but for the most part they drank tea.  With sugar and milk.

I drink mine with a little sugar.  No milk or half and half unless it’s chai.

Right now I’m on the peach green tea kick.  One cup in the morning and I’m fine but I don’t have to have a cup of tea to function.

In knitting news…I am so close to finishing the collar on the Peony Twist cardi.  I might have to start a new skein for the last row or two.  Binding off early would probably look weird since it would be in the middle of the pattern repeat.

I won’t have much time to work on it tonight.  I have meeting until 8:00 tonight.  My Herringbone scarf/neck warmer has taken a back seat since I started on the Peony Twist Cardi but I brought it with me today just in case I have time between meetings to knit a few rows.
