Girl Friday

It’s been a long week at work and it was a short week at that!  We had a very important meeting today and though I don’t conduct the meetings, I do have to make sure everything runs smoothly.  Get there early.  Make sure the I pick up  refreshments for the meeting before the meeting.  Remember extra agendas, markers, flip chart pads and anything else we need for the meeting.  If you are an administrative assistant or office manager, you know what I’m talking about.  There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work to make meetings run smooth and an organization look good.  That’s one of the things I do.

My reward for the day was I got to go home early.  It was only an hour and a half but it was early enough to capture daylight for my latest yarn purchases.

Fingering weight

The midnight heather (a nice dark navy) and dusk are for the Musica mitts for Mr. Aitch.  http://coalabaer.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/fingerless-gloves-musica2.pdf   (Sorry the link button isn’t working right now.)  I want them to be a Christmas gift but might not get them finished in time.  If I don’t have any problems with the pattern, it should be a breeze.  Key word is “if”.

Papaya Heather

This beautiful color is going to be made into a Drops Design short jacket 117-43 for me.  I didn’t order enough yarn for this as I was figuring the yarn by weight and not yardage.  More yarn is on the way.  I won’t start this until all my other Christmas things are finished.

 The coal, cobblestone and red are planned to be a version of Eva Katarina’s Bird and Vine mittens.  You can check this out on Ravelry’s site.   http://www.ravelry.com/projects/EvaKatharina/endpaper-mitts   I wasn’t sure if the cobblestone would be too dark so I also ordered the dove grey just in case.

Right now I’m making some hats from Spud and Chloe mentioned in an earlier post for the twin’s birthday coming up next month.  I’m using some stash yarns and will show you pictures as soon as I’m finished.  The pattern is very quick.  I started the hat Wednesday morning before I went to work and finished the body of it this morning.  I’m getting ready to start on the earflaps.

The seamless slippers for Dr. Professor are finished except for the soles.  Pictures will follow.

I really need to finish the Ms Ida mittens.  I’ll see if I can get her to behave.  Sad when all I have left to do are the thumbs.  I will not let her get the best of me.

The formatting on WordPress isn’t working very well tonight so I think I’m going to give up trying to get the links to work.  I’m posting this later than usual and am looking forward to a day when I can sleep in.  And guess what?  Tomorrow is that day!!

Quickie

Driving for seven hours in one day is tiring.  And I didn’t drive at all this extended weekend.  I rode everywhere.  I’m still tired!

Mrs. Professor liked her slippers.  I started another pair of the seamless slippers for Dr. Professor but didn’t get both of them finished.  I was knitting in the car and discovered a major flaw about ten rows back on the second one.  I couldn’t correct the mistake while riding (motion sickness issues) so I will work on them this week.  Dr. and Mrs Professor will be in our area over Thanksgiving (next week) and I hope to give them to him then.

Another Swiffer cover is about half way finished.  I didn’t get as much knitting done as I anticipated.  I did have to stop and look at the scenery.

We toured Biltmore in Ashville, North Carolina.  Have you been there?  Awesome to say the least.  We also traveled a bit on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  The views were breathtaking!

Mr. Aitch did a fabulous job with his portion of the program.

If I can get home from work tomorrow while it’s still daylight, I will show you my latest yarn order and the plans for the yarn.  I’ve already discovered I didn’t order enough yarn for one project 😦 and must see if they can send me more yarn in the same dye lot.  Substituting one yarn for another has always been a problem for me.

I have a lot of Christmas knitting to do and I will save the socks for after-Christmas-knitting.

Yay!  My yarn arrived this afternoon just in time for me to pack something new for our road trip.  Of course, the yarn already has 1,286 miles on it.  Almost 1,000 more than it should.

It was dark by the time I got home from work so I don’t have a picture to show you the yarn I bought.  I did glance through the sock book (Around the World in Knitted Socks) and discovered I didn’t have the size 1 needles to start any of the socks.  Of course I didn’t look at all the patterns but the first few definitely use size 1.  I may regret my plan to knit every sock in the book.  Size 1 needles are small!

I’m taking the soakers and Swiffer covers to work on in the car.  I still have to sew on the soles for the seamless slippers I’m gifting to Mrs. Professor.  I’m also taking yarn for the Musica Mitts and a fabulous hat pattern from Spud and Chloe to make for the some little heads that will need to be covered this winter.

I probably won’t get to post until Tuesday. 

I must finish packing.

MIA: yarn

This winter I thought about following in cpeezers footsteps (pun intended) and knit my way through the book: Around the World in Knitted Socks.  She’s knitting her way through the Joy of Sox.

Last week I ordered some yarn and the book (Around the World in Knitted Socks) from Knit Picks.   Ship date: November 3.  Estimated delivery date: November 8.

I got the tracking info and watched my yarn get closer and closer, then farther and farther away.  The process started near Columbus, Ohio (point A).  I’m only 299 miles from Columbus (point E).

Where’s my yarn?

From point A (Columbus, Ohio) to point B (Martinsburg, West Virginia) to point C (Capital Heights, Maryland) to point D (Greensboro, North Carolina)  to point E (me) is a total of 1,093 miles.  Over three times longer than it needed to be.  Of course, I don’t know for sure if my yarn is on its way to me yet.  Greensboro, North Carolina is the last known location I have.

They practically went right passed my house!  They could have called me and I’d have met them somewhere along the road!!

I was hoping to have this yarn and pattern book by Wednesday.  I’m not too optimistic right now.
