Kn words

I don’t understand why there is a silent “k” at the beginning of some words.  I’m sure there is a very good reason, right? But since I have the day off, I’m not going to use my valuable “me” time to do a search.

Knife or knives.

Hiding between my windows at the kitchen sink and a side cabinet…

… is a magnetic knife rack.

I love this thing.   All my good cutting knives are hanging there in plain sight so all I have to do is reach up and grab what I need.  These used to be in a drawer in cardboard sleeves to protect the cutting edge and fingers.  Not convenient, well, being in a drawer was not convenient.  Protecting one’s fingers was convenient.

Knitting.

Of course I had to include some knitting!

slipper

I knit this one, lone, seamless slipper on a bus trip I took recently.  Only had enough time to knit the one and it’s missing its mate.  Even though it doesn’t know it is supposed to have a mate.

If you’ve tried to knit these, the hardest part (IMHO) is the beginning.  The pattern is right at the top of this blog.  Under the header.   My designs.

Or click on this link.  It will take you right to it.

One last thing…  A BIG thank you to all our Veterans who have served this great country to keep us safe and free.  God Bless You!

New Pattern – Olive Oil Drip Catcher

Yesterday I posted a picture of a new pattern I made up using a suggestion from my brother:  The Olive Oil Drip Catcher.

In case you missed the post, it’s a small collar that fits around an olive oil bottle to catch the drips regardless of the “dripless” claim.

This little drip catcher uses 14 yards (depending on your mileage) of superwash fingering weight yarn perfect for all those bits of sock yarn you have left over wanting to be something useful.

Click on “My Designs” and “Olive Oil Drip Catcher” in the header bar for the link and let me know what you think!

Olive oil bottle sleeve

When Mr. Aitch and I went to visit my brother and sister-in-law in New Hampshire last month, I took along some knitting.  We went on the Harley so it had to be small knitting.

That’s the knitting bag I won from Dyed in the Wool along with a pattern for a wine bottle sleeve, needles, notions bag, and yarn.

It all fitted in there quite nicely.  I knitted a wine bottle sleeve for them one evening after dinner.

And they actually use it!

My sister-in-law’s sister visited them last week and she remarked about how wonderful the wine bottle sleeve was for catching drips.  If it was a bit larger around and shorter, it would be perfect to catch the drips on a bottle of olive oil.

So I manipulated the pattern and came up with this:

It actually folds down so it’s got two layers to absorb the drips.  Plus it’s larger around.  And shorter.  And has a “fold” line knitted into it.  And the ribbing is different.  And uses less than 14 yards of sock yarn.

Do all those changes make it publishable?  As a free pattern?

Twist update

Sorry no pictures of my progress today.  When I got home from work yesterday, Mr. Aitch had a big pot of veggie soup simmering and the wonderful aroma was too much for me to resist.  I dove right in.  Then there was not enough light to get any good pictures.

But I digress.

I have been working of the Peony Twist cardi each evening and have 1-3 more rows before I divide for the armholes.  I think I might run out of yarn.

I’m using Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Peony and have seven balls of 109 yards or 763 yards.  I’ve substituted yarn from my stash and got the exact gauge.  The medium size calls for four balls of yarn of 205 yards or 820 yards.   And the next size up also calls for the same number of balls of yarn.

So I’m thinking I might just have enough even though I’m technically 63 yards short.***

Maybe I should see if Knit Picks has another ball in the same dyelot…just to be safe.

***Edit:  My math was wrong.  I’m technically 57 yards short.

What would you do?  Go for it or be safe?
