First day back

A former boss of mine used to say that he needed another day to rest because it was always hard to get back into the swing of things on the first day back after a long weekend or vacation.  It was a running joke with my co-workers.

I could have used an extra hour or two of sleep this morning.  The holiday weekend was great fun but oh, so tiring.

It’s supposed to get into the mid 90’s today so I doubt I’ll go for my lunchtime walk.  It would be great if I could get it in before 10:00 AM.  We’ll see if that works out.

Wet, dripping wet

When Mr. Aitch left the house around 1:30 yesterday afternoon, it didn’t look like rain.  It didn’t look like rain at 3:30 either.  But by 3:35 a HUGE thunderstorm cell had formed just to the southwest of us and was headed our way.  The skies opened up just as I got to my car to leave work around 4:00.

I stopped at the market on my way home to pick up some things for our weekend festivities.  It was pouring down rain when I went into the store but was not raining when I came out and had to put the groceries in the car.  I could still hear the rumbling thunder all around me.

The rain started back up again on my way home.  A hard rain.  The kind of rain where the windshield wipers don’t look like they’re doing anything.  The kind of rain that is deafening.

I’m so glad we have a garage and a garage door opener and don’t have to deal with the rain while unloading the car once I get home.

The first thing I noticed when I got into the house was that the kitchen windows were open.  Our kitchen sink is in the corner and the counter had a huge puddle of water on it.  The plants I have sitting there got watered.

The back of the leather sofa had water droplets on it but the side table was dry.  Both were next to open windows.

I ventured upstairs and felt the curtains, foldout beds and rug in one of the bedrooms.  I had a pile of fabric on one of the foldout beds.  Everything was dripping wet.

Mr. Aitch called me and mentioned that he didn’t think to close the windows when he left as it didn’t look like rain.

I was not happy.

I realize it could have been worse, much worse.

We’re expecting the same weather today.  I’ll be sure to remind Mr. Aitch to close the windows before he leaves the house.

Celebrations

May 23 was my one year anniversary for this blog.

Today is my Dad’s birthday.  I miss him.

In two days I will see my daughter, her husband, and the twins, E&Z.

In three days I will see my daughter-in-law and family, B&J.

In five days we will remember and honor those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

Dolphins

Not much knitting is going on.  We’ll have a house full of people this coming weekend so I’m down to panic cleaning and decluttering.  I have to make a list of everything that needs done so I feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.  I can get easily distracted and it keeps me on task, too.

I’ve been feeling a bit out of sorts lately and I thought that joining in with Cindy and her Smoosh Camp 2011 would help get me out of that funk.  I’m not as detailed as Cindy is.  I’m just trying to move more and watch what I put in my mouth.  After all exercise reduces stress, improves sleep, boosts self-esteem, plus it releases dolphins that make you feel better.  Or is it endorphins?  =)

The first week I managed to walk one lap around our building each day during lunch.  It was cool but not raining.

Last week it rained every day so I didn’t get to do my lunchtime walk. That  Monday I did some exercises while sitting at my desk.  The rest of the week was a bust.

This is a new week.  Yesterday I did two laps and expanded my route.  The assistant director asked if I was going to do my lap at lunchtime so he went along with me.  The second lap was his idea and it was good.  I didn’t get that sleepy feeling around 2:00 even though I didn’t get a very good night’s sleep the night before.  In fact I felt great the rest of the day.

Maybe there is something about those dolphins after all.
