Dots and stripes tester

I was smitten with this Traveler’s Pocket  designed by Nancy Bush on the cover of Piecework magazine  issue July/August 2004.

My Traveler's Pocket

I made mine out of denim yarn which, unfortunately, is no longer available.  You can tell it’s stretched out and well used.

I wanted something a bit bigger so I reshaped the pattern and added a gusset in the bottom.  It’s also knit in the round however there is no seam to sew on the bottom. There is a seam at the top hem and optional lining.  Finished size is 8 inches by 10 inches.

I used leftover cotton yarn but this would look great in fewer colors.  Like blues and greens, reds and oranges or purples or even self-striping yarn and a solid.  This would be a great project to try stranded knitting.

I have one test knitter but would like at least one more to make sure I have all the bugs worked out.  Would you like to test knit this pattern for me?

Sold out

Knit Picks doesn’t have the dye lot for the yarn I may need to finish the Peony Twist cardigan I’m making.  I did check Ravelry and several people there have the dye lot so I’m going to see if any one would be willing to sell or trade…just in case I need more.

So if you have one skein of Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Peony #5606 dye lot #7595 and are willing to trade/sell, please leave a comment.

Divided for the armholes

I hope the stitches relax and even out when I block it.

Twist update

Sorry no pictures of my progress today.  When I got home from work yesterday, Mr. Aitch had a big pot of veggie soup simmering and the wonderful aroma was too much for me to resist.  I dove right in.  Then there was not enough light to get any good pictures.

But I digress.

I have been working of the Peony Twist cardi each evening and have 1-3 more rows before I divide for the armholes.  I think I might run out of yarn.

I’m using Knit Picks Comfy Worsted in Peony and have seven balls of 109 yards or 763 yards.  I’ve substituted yarn from my stash and got the exact gauge.  The medium size calls for four balls of yarn of 205 yards or 820 yards.   And the next size up also calls for the same number of balls of yarn.

So I’m thinking I might just have enough even though I’m technically 63 yards short.***

Maybe I should see if Knit Picks has another ball in the same dyelot…just to be safe.

***Edit:  My math was wrong.  I’m technically 57 yards short.

What would you do?  Go for it or be safe?

Overdye

At least that’s what I think it’s called.

This is not directly a knitting post but I know there are many knitters that dye yarn.  I have a dye question.

I have a wonderful denim wrap skirt.  It fits great, is A-line, is the right length, has the nicest buttons.  And is age appropriate.  I love everything about it.  Except the color.

Denim skirt

Not a good picture but it’s the only one I have available right now.

It’s too light.  It’s a washed-out denim.

I’d like to dye it a darker blue but have little experience in dyeing anything other than Easter eggs and the tie-dye T-shirts we did in art class.

My biggest fear is that I will ruin it forever.  I will wear it as it is now but if I could change make it darker, I would.  If it comes out a yucky blue, I’ll be very upset.

It has a little bit of metal on it so “curing” it in the microwave is out.

Have you ever dyed anything successfully?  Help!
