Sluggish

I was trying to find a nice photo of a slug for this post but after looking at several on-line, I decided there is no such thing as a “nice” photo of a slug.  They’re gross!!!

Anyway, I have not been myself for a while.  I feel sluggish.  I haven’t been posting much either.

Something (me) has to change.

I am forcing myself to attend another Zumba class that starts tomorrow evening.  Forcing myself because I hate going to these kinds of classes where everyone there has a buddy.  Except me.

This class is designed for “baby boomers” so I hope the instructor has better communication skills, like actually showing us the steps rather than saying, “Just watch me, you’ll figure it out eventually.”

I am one of those people who has to go someplace else to exercise.  I wish I wasn’t but that’s who I am.  Once my name is on the class roster, I’m committed.

As for my knitting projects I have started another e-tablet cover for Mr. Aitch.  This one WILL fit.

Another cupcake hat is complete with the cherry on top.  I will show that later as I have to make another one to fit a larger head.

The cover for Mr. Aitch’s tablet before felting.  I think it’s big enough.

After felting, it’s too short.  An inch too short.

I do have more yarn.  In fact I have enough yarn to knit another one.

The tablet is 9 x 7 1/5.  The cover is 10 x 6 1/2.

Can I do something to this to fix it?

Do over?

Any suggestions?

Cover charge

Mr. Aitch received an e-tablet for Christmas and asked me to knit AND felt a cover for him.  Mr. Aitch doesn’t usually request knit items.

He wants it NOW.

I told him that it would probably take me a couple of weeks to get it finished.   Then I realized I didn’t have a pattern nor colorwork plan.  He doesn’t want anything fancy: solid gold with the flying WV logo on one side and solid blue with the gold flying WV logo on the other.

 

Talk about a boring knit!  I will try to do some two-color stitches between the color changes.  He said he doesn’t like stripes so maybe a checkerboard motif…

I cast on what I “think” will be enough stitches from my felted swatch hoping it will be close enough.  I’m just not sure how to approach the distortion factor with the logo.  I might hand stitch or try needle felting the logo on after it’s felted.  Can I needle felt with the yarn or do I need unspun fleece?

Unfinished business

On this last day of the year I thought I’d take stock of some unfinished business, namely my unfinished projects from 2011.   The list is short and consists of a pair of mitts, a scarflet, and a bag.  Not too bad.

Fetching Mitts: 

I don’t like the way theses mitts flare out and curl at the ends which is why they are still unfinished.  I will rip out the finger and thumb edges and finish them with a simple ribbing.

Linen stitch scarflet:

I started this on the flight back from Vegas in October.  I’ve worked on it some since then and have about 16 inches knitted with 9-10 more inches to go.  Christmas knitting prevented me from finishing this.  I hope blocking the finished scarf will correct curling at the edges and keep it from curling when worn.  Other than that one concern, I am loving the colors and the stitch.

Garter Stitch Bag Part 2

This one is for my sister. Love the colors: Cascade 220 in Primavera and Jet.  I used these two colors on my bag along with Ruby.  Same pattern as before but I cast on 21 stitches per square instead of 17.  The original pattern calls for 25 stitches per square but that makes a bag too big for my taste.  And too heavy for my shoulder.  The pattern is relatively mindless knitting though I had to rip out part of a square when I discovered I was mindlessly doing stockinette stitch (knit one row, purl the next) instead of garter stitch (knit all rows).  Easy enough to fix.

The mitts should take an hour or two to finish.

The bag is a bit more time-consuming.  Each row takes me about one minute to knit and each square is 42 rows.  It’s roughly 42-45 minutes per square provided I don’t accidentally purl instead of knit.  I have 6 out of 22 squares finished and I’m seaming it together as I go. Easy to do while watching a movie or football game.

The scarf is, well, just a scarf.  It’s for me and I’m not in a hurry to finish it so it will be at the bottom of the list.

Do you have any unfinished business this year?  Will you finish what you started before casting on something else?
