I needed another project after our party so I tackled recovering a desk chair that needed some TLC. Mr. Aitch uses this chair when practicing his saxophone. The seat has seen better days.
This was the easiest project and only took a few hours. Taking the screws out and back in probably took the longest time!
The fabric was leftover from another chair I recovered for work so I didn’t have to buy anything. Fortunately I had the perfect size piece of foam for the seat. I just covered the chair back with the new fabric and used a super sticky double-sided tape to hold the fabric together while I hand sewed the seam under the back panel.
Four generations of my family got married on the same day. My maternal grandparents in 1921, my parents in 1950, Mr. Aitch and I in 1974, and our daughter and husband in 2007.
I had these photos on the tables as decoration as well as 20 x 30 inch posters on the walls.
From top left clockwise: my grandparents (on the right) with the maid of honor and best man, my parents, our daughter and son-in-law, and me and Mr. Aitch.
Unfortunately I didn’t ask anyone to take photos during the event so all you get are the favors.
I’ve been making these Hershey Nuggets covers for various events for about 20 years. I just use a sheet of address labels (1″ x 2 5/8″), “create” the message, and print them out on my home printer. The labels fit perfectly over the wrappers.
I took a cookie decorating course at our local community college in March and learned how to decorate cookies and cakes using Royal icing. For our anniversary favors I made about four dozen cookies in various shapes and iced the cookies. Some are two-toned with white and pink but most are plain white.
I bought a cookie stencil and gold spray icing to make the cookies shine then piped little dots of icing around the edges.
We attached round labels to cellophane bags. After the icing dried, we inserted a cookie in each bag and tied it shut with white curling ribbon.
I decided to get two cakes, one sheet cake and the other cupcakes in the shape of a champagne flute. The sheet cake was devoured at the party but we managed to bring to cupcakes home and finish them off with some help from our family and neighbors.
With around 40 guests it was best that we had the party catered and hired a bartender. Our caterer supplied us with a variety of sliders, chicken nuggets, chips, nuts, fresh veggies with dip, fresh fruit, loaded potato skins, and sausage kabobs. We served beer, wine, iced tea, lemonade, and water. Everyone was well-behaved and no one danced on the tables.
Mr. Aitch, Pepper, and I went to my brother’s “cottage” on Lake Chautauqua last week for wine tastings at various vineyards in the area. The weather wasn’t as cooperative as predicted but we still had fun, tasted multiple wines, and ate well. (Too well. I’m glad I packed elastic waist pants!)
We’ve only taken Pepper with us on the road one other time and boarded her other times. She needed her own travel bag. I used a heavy canvas bag for her before but it was a bit small and promoted my former working environment. Not that that’s a bad thing but I wanted a bigger bag with dog-related fabric or designs.
Some of the fabric I acquired from my BFF had the perfect design. Five and a half yards of the blue bone fabric. The piece was evidently leftover from a quilt as it was only 20 inches wide. Whatever, it would work for my purpose.
I cut the solid back and handles off the original canvas bag for the bottom section and handles for Pepper’s bag. I used a layer of fusible fleece on both the outer and lining fabrics to give the bag more stability.
I added a vinyl pocket to the front, a slip pocket inside, and a snap to keep it closed. The best part was that I used what I had. The straps/handles are dark green but I’m OK with that. And Pepper doesn’t care either.
When I hit a snag in the stair refinishing project, I went to my BFF’s house for a few days to clear my head. Plus we hadn’t seen each other since 2013. Something always came up, like life.
She is the kind of friend that no matter how long it’s been since you last talked, wrote, or called, it’s like you were just together yesterday. Other than my sister and brother, she is my oldest and dearest friend.
I took a bottle of Chianti as I knew we were having lasagna for dinner with her friends. She’s not a wine drinker and surprise, surprise, neither were her friends! Um, I had to drink the bottle myself. It was a tough job but somebody had to do it. 🍷
We went to my favorite store: IKEA!!!! We also had Graeter’s ice cream 🍨 and Whit’s frozen custard. 🍦 We looked through Peddler’s Mall and Goodwill where I bought a 50th Anniversary banner and other gold decorations for our anniversary party for $2.00.
We played games like Tribond and Quiddler, giggled like school girls, and talked while imbibing cranberry juice and amoretto cocktails.
One of her friends gave her five or six HUGE tubs of fabric that her dear departed mother had. I went through and took what I thought I would use. I didn’t take much as I have so much fabric but already made two things for Pepper: a crate blanket and travel bag.
We packed in a ton of fun and memories in a few days. When I got back home, I was ready to finish the stair project.
