Wedding weekends

The past two weekends were filled with two weddings.  The first one was out of town which resulted in me pet sitting for part of that time.  The second wedding was local.

The twins were flower girls in the first wedding.  The only still photos I have were taken with my phone.

E is on the left and is trying to be cute and she’s successful.  Z is on the right and is trying so hard not to smile.  Not so successful.

Here we are waiting to leave for the reception.

I love my dress and wore it again this weekend.  No one who attended the first wedding was gong to attend the second so I felt safe to repeat the same outfit.

This weekend’s wedding has no pictures to go with it.  As I said it was local so Mr. Aitch and I didn’t have to juggle too many things to attend.

I really need a few days to myself to catch up on everything I’ve kind of let go.  This has been a busy summer and I only have two weeks of “summer hours” left.  I enjoy having an extra day off during the week but the 10-hour work days are really taking their toll.

Later this week I will have an update on the Sheep Carousel.

Freshly baked rolls

Mr. Aitch and I love freshly baked bread and rolls.  In fact we’ve been known to have that and a bottle of wine for dinner!  Unfortunately it’s just too darn hot in the summer to turn on the oven.  We usually end up having store-bought “freshly” baked bread or rolls.  Until now.

I cheated and used the frozen bread dough already shaped into rolls.

I sprayed the 8×8 aluminium pan with cooking spray.  Then I placed nine rolls in the pan and sprayed a piece of plastic wrap with the cooking spray.  This was placed over the rolls (spray side down) to keep them from sticking to the plastic while rising.

Once they were doubled (or tripled) in size, Mr. Aitch fired up the grill to 400 F.  Our grill has three burners so he turned off the center burner (indirect heat) and we placed the uncovered pan of risen rolls right on the cooking grate.

Sorry for the overexposed photo but we were in a hurry!  He closed the lid, set the timer and turned them half way through the baking time according to the directions on the package.  He was able to maintain a fairly consistent temperature (350 F) adjusting the burners as needed.

18 minutes later we had freshly baked rolls.  Perfect.

After we took them off the grill, I dumped them out of the pan, brushed the tops with a little bit of bacon grease then wrapped them in a cloth to keep warm while he grilled the rest of our dinner.

We’ve done this twice within a week and can’t wait to do this again.

Have you grilled anything unusual?

Casting on

It’s been almost two weeks since my last post.   Mr. Aitch and I have been on the road and once we finally got back home, regular life started back.  Today is the first day I’m had to sit down and regroup.

I started the Sheep Carousel tea cozy by Kate Davies.  This is how far I’ve gotten after spending almost two hours with the provisional cast on and first two rows.

The blue is the provisional cast-on row.  I used this tutorial which was so easy to learn and understand.  It’s really not difficult at all but for some reason my brain was not able to count properly.  Counting is very important when one has to cast on a certain number of stitches before joining the yarn in the round.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6…….

Craft group

Before I go any farther, I am posting this from my iPad. I apologize in advance for any inconsistencies with the formatting, spelling, and general wonkiness.

Mr. Aitch and I are house/dog sitting for his brother this week in my hometown. My aunt also lives here so we’ve been spending time with her as well.

On Monday I went a senior center where she leads exercises for the residents.  I am embarrassed to admit that I couldn’t keep up with them.  These women (including my aunt) are at least 20-30 years older than I am.

Yesterday we went to a craft group. I took my knitting with me and the ladies there wanted to know all about my felted bag since I was working on the one for my sister. They weren’t quite sure how that flat piece of knitting was going to end up as the 3-D bag.

I did finish all the flat knitting and now have to sew the loose squares and side seams before I add the I-cord edging.

The colors are really charcoal and lime green.

The ladies also oohed and awed over my next project: Sheep Carousel Tea Cozy.  I hope to get started on that soon.

Here is a picture from the craft group.  Unfortunately I didn’t think to take a picture earlier as one of the ladies had already left.  So from l to r: my aunt Evelyn, Josephine, Dorothy, and Deo.  A lovely group of ladies.
