Monday Mish-Mash

Short on time this morning but I have a few “purls” of wisdom:

  1. If you buy a GPS, buy a good one.
  2. Don’t hog the left lane when driving.
  3. Separation anxiety sucks.  Reassure your kids that it’s ok for them to get on the school bus so they don’t cause a scene and hold up traffic for a full five minutes.
  4. Drinking 32 ounces of anything in a short period of time will make you sick.
  5. Tell those you love that you love them.  Often.
  6. Thank God for your blessings as well as your challenges.
  7. Sometimes you can find a pattern for the amount of yarn you have.

Empty needles again

Since I finished the Peony Twist Cardi over the weekend (still minus the buttons), I don’t have anything else on my needles.  For some reason I have great ideas and projects I want to start but I just can’t get enthused about any of them at the moment.

Click on the link below for a preview.

Several months ago I bought Around the World in Knitted Socks  by Stephanie Van Der Linden intending to start at the beginning and knit my way through the book.  I love hand knitted sock but only have one pair to call my own.  For some reason I just can’t get the first one on the needles.  In fact I can’t get anything on the needles.

Maybe I need to take a break and concentrate on the decluttering aspect of my house.  I really need to organize my knitting, sewing, printmaking, paper, polymer clay, and painting materials.  Do I have enough hobbies?

Two done, many more to go

I found the box of felt ornaments I wanted to complete for Christmas last year.  I also decided what I was doing for Christmas card this year.  Why do I have Christmas ideas right now?  It’s cold, wet, and dismal outside and it reminds me of winter, not spring.  Plus if I get on with these now, I won’t be in the panic I usually am in December.

I have a “procedure” Friday morning and the prep involves laxatives.  Lots of laxatives.  And lots of sitting.  Then Mr. Aitch and I will be in the car for about 6 hours this weekend.  Maybe I can get motivated to get something on the needles to keep me busy.

Edit:  Happy Birthday, Mom.  I miss you.

Hey, Jude

Jude is my sister and we exchanged several emails last night.  I was feeling a bit, a lot, no, huge amounts of down last night and she lifted my spirits.

That’s what sisters (and brothers) are for.

Thanks, Jude.  You are the best sister!

Before turning off my computer, I checked my blog and discovered:  My Dots and Stripes Purse pattern made it to knittingpatterncentral.com!

It’s listed in the new pattern section and the Bags, Totes, and Purses section.

Dots and stripes

Wow!

That helped a little, too.

Coffee or tea?

In my hometown we have (I think it’s still there) a place that roasts coffee and bags it to sell.  Theydidn’t roast coffee every day but when the wind was just right, you could smell it for miles.

coffee

My grandparents drank coffee.  I remember my grandmother having a big glass pot of coffee warming on the stove when we would stop there on Sundays after church.

Mr. Aitch grinds coffee beans every morning and the aroma is wonderful.

My best friend trained her kids to have a pot of fresh brewed coffee waiting for her when she got home from work.

The smell of coffee is a good memory for me.  It’s the smell of comfort.

I know a lot of people who can’t function without a cup of coffee first thing in thh morning.

Me?  I don’t drink the stuff.  Love the smell but not the taste.  My parents would occasionally drink coffee but for the most part they drank tea.  With sugar and milk.

I drink mine with a little sugar.  No milk or half and half unless it’s chai.

Right now I’m on the peach green tea kick.  One cup in the morning and I’m fine but I don’t have to have a cup of tea to function.

In knitting news…I am so close to finishing the collar on the Peony Twist cardi.  I might have to start a new skein for the last row or two.  Binding off early would probably look weird since it would be in the middle of the pattern repeat.

I won’t have much time to work on it tonight.  I have meeting until 8:00 tonight.  My Herringbone scarf/neck warmer has taken a back seat since I started on the Peony Twist Cardi but I brought it with me today just in case I have time between meetings to knit a few rows.
