I ruined it

I was so confident with my little binding machine that I decided to turn my knitting book into a wire bound book.

This book is where I keep all the information about my knitting projects. It’s the record of the pattern, yarn, needle size, date, stitch and row counts, and anything else that relates to the project.

It will be perfect when I want to keep the page open to a certain spot.

In my most cocky voice inside my head I said to myself, ” You’re a genius, Patti. An absolute genius! You can do this!”

I grabbed my knitting book and started right in.

I clamped the book to the worktable.

I “should” have noticed that I wrote close to the inside edge of the book before I started with the saw to cut off the spine. In fact I should have just cut the book apart with a craft knife and not the saw.

Realizing my mistake, I kept right on going. The book was already cut and there was nothing I could do about that.

I covered the front and back covers and punched away to get the holes for the wire comb…forgetting to readjust the machine for the back cover. The holes didn’t line up.

I looked around for an old book that I could take apart to redo the covers. No luck.

So I did the next best (that’s debatable) and flipped the covers around and punch the other edge.

That didn’t work out so well but the at least one side of the punched front cover matched one side of the back cover. I finished binding the book and decided to rethink my choices when trying this genius (NOT) idea again. The cover is bigger than the pages but the pages are too low and almost stick out at the bottom.

The book is ruined and a major mess but I can still make out most of my notes.

The one bright spot is that the rest of the book will be great!

I forgot to say it

If you have siblings, you might have said this when you got up from your place on a chair or the sofa. Maybe you needed to get a drink or snack. Or answer the phone (when they were still attached with a cord). Or go to the bathroom. “I get this seat when I get back.”

Mr. Aitch and I don’t have that problem.

But Pepper and I do.

I forgot to say, “I get this chair when I get back.”

Cold piggies

Yesterday was chilly. No, it was cold in the upper 40s. That doesn’t seem cold in the big picture but it was close to 80 degrees on Sunday.

I had a pedicure scheduled and I wore sandals which is traditional footwear for pedicures.

My toes were definitely not used to the cold! I might need to knit a pair of pedi-socks for myself to at least keep the rest of my foot warm until the polish dried.

Oh, and I should have picked a more autumnal color…like orange.

Clean up

I like to feed the birds during the winter and hummingbirds in the summer. Last year I got a new feeder for the winter that has places for seeds as well as suet cakes.

I took down the hummingbird feeders earlier this week and cleaned them before putting them away. Actually, I threw one away as the plastic perches were disintegrating from the sun and looked disgusting. We have two hummingbird feeders, one for the front porch and one about 10 feet away from the deck. I’ll need to buy another one next year.

I thought I’d take a look and the winter bird feeder and my suet cake supply. The five cakes I have will be enough for now so I’ll watch for sales to replenish my supply of Woodpecker and Hi-Energy ones. I’ve got plenty of seed for a month or two.

Well, I evidently forgot to clean that feeder before I put it in the garage in the spring. Outta sight, outta mind. I grabbed a trowel, bamboo skewer, old toothbrush, a scrubby pad, and some disposable gloves and started scraping away the mess.

The trowel got the biggest clumps.

The bamboo skewer and toothbrush got in the crevasses and other hard to reach spaces.

The scrubby pad got the rest. It’s not perfect by any means but it’s so much better.

I usually wait till after the first frost to fill it but it’s already for seeds and suet cakes.

Do you feed the birds?
