I remember when I was in kindergarten and one day we were discussing foods or vegetables and what we had for dinner the night before. The subject turned to spinach and one of the kids remarked that he was allergic to spinach. Several other kids chimed in that they wished they were allergic to spinach as they didn’t like it. I mean, it was what gave Popeye his strength, right? I felt sorry for them as I really liked spinach. And I still do. Raw or cooked.
Did you know that Alma, Arkansas is the Spinach Capital of the World? Or that they have a park dedicated to the most famous spinach eater/lover ever?

I never had spinach as a kid, but do like it in salads now!

Oh, my goodness! That allergic lie did not work for me! In my generation, spinach was mostly slimy gunk out of a can! In my 30s I was introduced to frozen chopped spinach, microwaved, with onion, salt, pepper, butter, and topped with cheese! A whole new vegetable! I love it, now!

Unfortunately I am allergic to chocolate…but I eat it anyway. I just have to watch how much so I don’t get really ill.

You can (Allen Canning Company) more than half of the all the spinach that is canned in the US, about 60 million pounds annually. Crystal City, Texas also has that claim to fame as the Spinach Capital of the World.
